So I'm searching for a job for the summer and I *might* have a hook up for Lexus as a Lot tech. Pay should be ~11-13/hour at least and its down the street from my summer residence.

Does anyone here have experience as a lot tech for any dealer?

Anyone have other suggestions for a sweet summer job?

Anyone know if I would get Toyota parts @ discount through working at Lexus? ;)

Umm, descride "Lot Tech" If it is a porter job its not bad, just moving cars arround and being poples bitch. Same as detail in some companies. I had to do my three months at toyota and it was fun and all. (Except no one spoke english! ) For 11-13 an hour, its not a bad job; hot yes, but still not a bad job. Wear sunblock and dont start smoking.

I was a porter at a ferrari/maserati and land rover dealership during HS... the LR lot was where i spent most of my time cause of the higher volume, and the guys weren't huge cock gobbling pricks like Ferrari people. I wish I had gotten paid that well, but its a pretty good gig. If you bust your ass and do a good job, you can meet some interesting people in the industry. Just remember, you're the low man on the totem pole.. you ARE the dealership's bitch. But at the same time its kinda neat cause you do a bit of everything (at least I did).. if you're going to be spending all summer washing cars, sucks for you. I had to wash the lot once a week, and that was usually saturday mornings, but I had the help of the detailers. Either way, I say go for it.

I worked as a porter when I was 16 for a chevy dealership.

crazy thing is the GM of the dealership started out at that dealership as a porter as well.

Lot tech = lot porter = dealership bitch.

I had heard porter before, but I hear lot tech more often around here. :dunno:

I could do worse than washing nice cars all day for 11-13 an hour. I.E. Continue to work at Best Buy for 9.50...

Maybe it's just because I live in Arizona, but I think that you may be underrating AC a little bit, especially when spring/summertime [hotter time of the year] is prime time for things car related.

That is a very good point. Honestly, with it being so cold here still, I forgot about the 95 degree midday heat.

Hmmm.... something to consider.

something very important to consider.our lot attendant guys get really lazy in the summer time due to the heat.heat will make you do thateven for us the techs.try working under a hood in 100 degree weather.not fun.the sales men got it the best and they are the least useful.but walking back and forth down the lot and keep getting in hot leather seated cars will wear you out.

I was a porter for a local ford dealership for about a year, it was a decent job, just driving and occasionally detailing cars, and delivering cars that were serviced for our fleet accounts (its kinda fun to get to drive a cop cruiser around town)

It was an easy job, but it can get a little brutal in the heat/rain/pretty much any shitty weather

I was not a lot tech or porter, I was just "detail." I was EVERYONES bitch for three months. the I got a lube rack spot and became Mr. Awesome.

The heat iss barable at 115* in cali. Just stay in the shade, AC is nice and all, but Id rather work outside.

This is something I've been thinking too. I LOVE working outdoors despite the heat normally.

I'll be trying for the job to at least give it a shot.

My current employment is at a starbucks, its a nice job but the indoors shit buggs me. Something about squeezing by people and not being able to have free range of my working environment is a downer.

Its not so much a special breed of working outside as it is working in normally un-barrable heat. If you dont like it, hey its only three months of summer. Dont sweat it. ;)

It's not a bad job, most of the time its pretty easy going, and for 11-13 an hour I'd say go for it. The nice part is you usually end up doing a variety of things, and occasionally get to drive some cool shit. The job usually entails working outside rain/shine hot/cold, so make sure you like the climate.
