wondered if anyone else had a similar experience:

i had a flat tire at 175k miles, got both rear tires replaced with Sumitomo HTR+'s. I've been driving maybe a year on these and just took it into inspection today. The wear bars are already showing on the center rib, even though ive kept them underfilled at 26-28psi instead of 32. At 185k, i now need new tires.

even though these were supposed to be performance tires shouldn't they last maybe 30-40k before they need replacing?

oh, and burnouts aren't an issue. i'm NA:(

which tire should i go with, a kumho ecsta spt or the yokohama avs es100?

is your car lowered

also Performance tires usually last allot shorter then touring tires

the tire itself also has different features, like the tread depth from the start some tires have more tread then others to start with which will dictate the life of the tire as well..

also under inflating your tires is not a good idea for regular street use

HTR+
Ultra High Performance All-Season

also if you check here those tires did not get much of a good rating

I had the Kumho Supra Ecsta 712s and had really good luck with them. I tried some Cooper tires this past time and have liked them as well, but the SPT or AST should be good from Kumho, I would think.

Sumitomo HTR-ZII (their "best" tire) were absolutely the worst set of tires I have ever purchased. I got them cheap when I got my WRX several years ago, and I had tread separation on both front tires at under 20k miles. They had terrible grip, and punctured rediculously easily. I had 1 or 2 patches in every tire, and one rear one had 3!

Falken, on the other hand, makes a GREAT tire, FK-452 and RT-615 are nice, both grip better then Kumho 712's.
The ziex512 tires are no so hot, but still far better then Sumitomo.

IJ - i have a set of Tein HR's all round on mine, and the front, which are Michelin Pilot Premacy's (in sig) are starting to wear on the outer edges, much like the Bridgestones that were on there before. Thing is, these Michelins have about 500 miles on them - am i going to need to adjust my suspension, or is this, as some say, an inherent 'issue' with the setup of the supra?

I've tried the 712's and thought they were a poor performance tire - I felt they were too hard (generally speaking) and downright scary if the asphalt was cold or damp. in the hard rain they were ok.

I currently have a set of hankook ventus - which is decent all around tire (wet/dry) at a good price point. They aren't as good as the SO-3's I had in the dry (by a long shot) but the SO-3's were quite a challenge in the rain.

I also had a set of goodyear gsc's which was a great tire (out of production) but it would flatspot over night and take 1-2miles to become equal again (jumping on the freeway right away was never fun).

the ASX series or the kdw2 was next on my list to try. Anybody try either of those tires?

sounds like an alignment thing (mostly) as well as a driving style. I don't run the stock alignment (one that is slightly more aggressive) and I have to drive the car a little harder to wear the tires evenly. But I usually won't align a car until the suspension is close to how I want it (change the suspension changes the alignment).

I LOVE my Kumho SPT's, just make sure to get the higher rated one...

they grip good, pretty good in the wet (far better than my old yokahama's), look good, they aren't the quietest things around though...

cooper's SUCK!!! my bro had some put on the front of his T/A, and BRAND NEW they squeeled like a bitch around corners...IN THE PARKING LOT. We're talking 10MPH here... He got the ZPT's, they looked OK, but they sucked...

yeah, i have the Kuhmo 712's, and they dont grip very well (i spun out making a left turn, into on-coming traffic)..

plus they're already wearing out, it's only been 5000 miles or so...

The 712's are the Kuhmos cheapest tire. Don't waste ur $$$ on it. :nono:

Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position - Best tire for the $$$ and has unbelievable grip wet or dry.

Aaron: I have 452 fronts and 451's rear they're great tires except for straight line traction :(

I recommended you go with rt615's before you bought those :nono:
For your hp you need something closer to a drag radial then a street tire.
