My 1j is swapped in to a bmw and I have always had to fight relacation on the oil filter because of the water cooler.

So while my motor is out I would like to keep and relocate the. Water cooled oil cooler off of the housing and mount it right to the block and than relocate to a bigger filter or even just run a stock filter again. With the housing gone I can run the stock filter with out space issues.

We will have to change the water inlet and out let locations to do this.

Has anyone ever done this?... is their a company selling a longer bolt for this ? Or is their a nother toyota car that I can get a oil bolt from to do this as the stock one is to short to mount to the block

Might as well just switch to a full flow oil cooler system and get rid of the stock cooler.

Titan sells a bolt for a adapter for the block. But I don't think it will work for the stock cooler.

If the threads are the same for bolt that holds the cooler to the housing you could use that but idk if it fits against the block.

I can get the adapter that titan sell made for a lot less than 115 dollars.. but I want to keep the stock cooler because not only does it maintain oil temp.. it also work as a oil warmer. I think I will end up running right off of the block with a relocator, and relocate the water cooler\warmer to the fliter end down line. Unless we can fine a way to build a new longer bolt to mount cooler right to block.. I will explore this some more and post results later on

If you get a full flow system with a t stat the t stat is usually 90/10 split so it warms the oil in the cooler so when the oil does get hot enough it doesnt just send in cold oil.

Much better route than trying to use the stock cooler which stay around 190-200*.

I have a remote mount .. that's not the problem.. I do not want to run a constant cooler. I am trying to keep the warming affect the stock cooler has for short daily driving to and from work.

That's what a t stat does. It's split so the oil still circulates and warms the oil in the cooler. Short drives it wouldn't even open.

Correct.. but don't most of the go full open at like 180 degrees ?. I would think that you would want it to maintain around the 200 area.. or what is good oil operating temp. We are seeing 200 cruising woth no cooler at all. What are your thoughts on the oil temp?.

I guess I'm asking what's too hot for oil temp say after a pull or 3.. and what's normal tems for crusing on say a 70 degree day

What are danger levels?

Depends. Mocal has 180 and 200. 180 is better tho that way the oil doesn't get too hot.

You don't need the oil to be at 200.
