My Mk3 came with 87 Celica All-Trac seats custom installed since they save about 30lbs. The seat belt clips into the buckle mounted to the seat frame. I noticed on Supra seats they do this too, but have some kind of long slider thing that also attaches to the transmission tunnel. Is this a crucial extra mount point? Is the celica seat frame enough to support the belt latch/buckle in an accident?

most restraint laws required them to be attached to the chassis IIRC...

the way the supra does it is a bit odd...

is there a place for some kind of support like the supra has in the celica seats?

no, that bar which bolts to the trans tunnel you are thinking of is a guide for the seats. it keeps the seat perpendicular to the rails as the seat slides back and forth on them. without this guide, the seat has the potential to yaw or turn to one side or the other as you slide it forward or rearward and bind up on the rails.

i actually lost the correct bolts, spacers and washers for these guides and havent been able to re-install them on my car :( my driver seat doesnt bind up but my passenger will. i have to slide it in the opposite direction if it binds up and re-attempt at the adjustment.
