I decided to get some of the Sylvania Silverstar sealed beams today and I thought I'd do some comparison pics. They were only $20 each. So, I figured why not. The stock ones that were in my car were looking pretty bad. I'm going to get the Hella ECE H4 conversions eventually. I just don't have the money right now for them.

Update: Nightshot, isn't that great. I don't really know how to use my camera for night shots.

Good old Jersey front plate...

I'm interested to see night time pics, as I've been thinking about a new headlight buy in the near future.

yea they arn't any brighter, they just put out a different color light.

Waste.

Well, compared to my old nasty stock ones, this is definitly an upgrade for me. The light output is noticeably better. You can have your opinions, but I've compared the two and they are a hellava lot better.

it's not an opinion. they produce this different color by blocking out certain other colors, thus making them no brighter. they are new clean lenses, with new bulbs. They probibly have a better light pattern, but still arn't even close to hella's

You're right, they aren't anywhere near as good as the hella's. This is a temp fix until I can afford the Hella ECE's.

$40 for silverstars

That's $40 toward your Hellas, imho. I have an almost brand new set of Silverstars I bought - HELL of an upgrade over some nasty old stockers, yes.

They're going into the '88 Accord. The Hella H4s are going into the Supra. :)

I have Cool blues on my supra and like them alot. They put out alot of light and have a nice color to them that helps me see better.

I put the ultra performance on my jeep and they are ok. The light is just Really white but not really bright. They blew away the stock lights on the jeep of course just being newer.

I like my cool blue over the performance though just seems to put out more usable light.

Amazon.com had a sale going on buy 3 get 1 free on some car parts. They had headlights, sealed and bulbs. Good deal if anyone is looking to get some lights. I got 2 sealed performance(cherokee) and 2 performance bulbs(mercury sable) for like 35 bucks shipped.

Only $20 each? For a lamp that last time I checked has a life of around 30 hours? Yikes.

Here's a tip when you get the E code housings: Avoid Sylvania Silver Star capsules. Buy Osram Silver Stars, the ones used in Europe. Osram owns Sylvania but the Stars they sell for use abroad are much superior to what they pawn off on the domestic market. You can buy Osram Stars online from many places. That said if you really want to improve your head lights rewire them.

I was actually wondering what would be a good bulb to use in the ECE headlights.

How hard is it to rewire the headlights? I'm not that great a wiring and you being the expert.

Listen to JetJock on this... a rewire can make a HUGE difference.

i too agree. we did bud's supra and it was a huge difference. we used the stock wiring as a trigger for a relay. it was some time ago, but i think we used either 12 or 14g for the lights.

as far as the silverstar comment, i have them on my truck and they are a lot better than stock. ok, maybe they arent a ton brighter, but they are noticeable enough and a less yellow of a light. i can see much easier with them than the stockers.

i know some people are a big fan of the euro lights, but i dont care for them much. the ones ive used had a really odd light pattern.

better beam pattern > brighter or different color lights

Cheap ebay housings (and most DOT housings) all suck compared to a good e-code that it properly designed to put the light where it should be...
