Stock MKIV spare on MKIII?

Has anyone tried to fit MKIV spare on MKIII?

How about fit MKIV spare into stock MKIII spare storage area in the hatch?

Is there any reaosn someone would do this? I can't remember but I swore my old MKIV spare was so much smaller than my MKIII basically full sized spare. So there may be some weight savings?

i would think that if the mkiv wheels fit, then the spare would fit as well.

Fd wheels are probably lighter than the mkiv spare, and they fit in the trunk.

Im glad you mentioned this, because i was thinking of a way to make more clearance under my car for a fuel cell... and one way involved cutting the spare tire well and sectionng it to make it shallower... and then keeping an MKIV donut as a spare. the only thing im not sure of is if the OD of the MKIV donut is the same or smaller than the MK3 Full size spare. as long as the MKIV donut will drop down into the MK3 spare tire well, id be a happy camper

would be nice to test and prove, my MKIV TT is long gone unfortunatly
