who said the stock headbolt washers weren't worth anything. Today i used 4 washers to shim the wastegate on my 88 and they work great and im burying the stock boost gauge

get yourself a decent aftermarket gauge. the stock one is damn slow to react... it's a good investment. ;)

well just got back from driving the car.....4 washers work great but 5 makes the car hit fuel cut in 3rd and 4th even with the afm screw all the way out...so going back down to 4 washers and leave it at that

Are the stock head bolt washers even needed?

what exactly are you asking here? i'm kindof confused. :) you cannot install head studs or headbolts withouth the washers, if that's what you're thinking. you need them. SupraNbama replaced his stockers with ARP's, (or new OEM ones), and used the OLD washers to shim his wastegate.
