what are the limitation of the stock fuel system? i was reading that the 440's are good until u go bigger than a to4 .... so my question is can the stock fuel system handle an upgraded ct26 i read on another forum that someone was running a SS stage III turbo and was still running rich :1zhelp:

Stage 3 is a small turbo. That isn't really saying much.

An upgraded fuel pump is cheap insurance. 440's work to about 400, and quickly reach max duty cycle. Don't go cheap on the fuel system.

Can stock fuel handle an upgraded ct26? That depends.

Before even thinking about the additional fuel requirements of an upgraded turbo, think about this: In a few months, it's possible that there will be 20 year old MKIII Supra Turbos running around, some with original fuel pumps. Even the youngest MKIIIs are still 15 years old...

Full boost on a freshly upgraded turbo would be the worst time to find out your fuel pump is on it's way out...unless you just want an excuse to do a teardown.

Like Nick said, it's cheap insurance.

Hopefully others can chime in and give experiences with upgraded ct's combined with minimal fuel upgrades--as I would like to learn the pitfalls of this upgrade path!

fuel should ALWAYS come before turbo upgrades if you ask me. i was running 6psi (stock) on my turbo after i did my swap. i didn't even think about increasing the boost until i got a walbro fuel pump, replaced the softline near the tank, replaced the filter, blew out the line under the car to clear it of debris, got an AFPR (not necessary, but a good idea), removed the j-tube, removed the fuel pulsation dampner, and put in 550cc injectors.

was that necessary to raise the boost a few psi? probably not. was it more safe than running increased boost levels on the 20yr old fuel system (my car's an 86.5)

you bet. ;)

What needs to be replaced when you block off the Jtube. What parts did you use?? I am getting ready to do the same thing. My head is getting rebuilt and I am going to put in new HG, Bolts(ARP) etc.. and I was planning on 550's walbro and FPR. Just looking for more details on pulling the j tube and those other fuel lines not needed..

bingo. if you're going to cheap out, get a new fuel pump and get the 440s cleaned. that should be good to @ least 400 rwhp....

ok just to check a Walbro Fuel Pump and getting the injectors clean sould hold you to 400 hp with out tuning?. I am asking becuse I just got the maftpro installed on my car and before I take it to get tuned I want to make sure I have every thing taken care of so i can run 13psi on a 57 trim ct. Car runs fine now but I hate to take it up there and find out I need to do some fule upgrades before they can tune it for that and be out $175.

mods

ffi manfold

i just pulled my J-tube off and used a chisel to knock it off the actual plate. then i ground it down, and painted it black.

with removing the j-tube, get some gas line from your local autoparts store, and run it from the return side of the fuel pressure regulator to the hardline under the car.

I've seen this mulitple times and it seems ot not be addressed..

If you change the turbo, you need ot change the fuel pump. Anything bigger than a stock ct26, and you WILL drop fuel pressure at boost. This is actualy happening on my car, and I already have a walbro. Looks like it's time for a pair of them.

Hello shaeff, just a retarded question from and old post.
What is a j tube? are there any performance gain by removing it,
and does it pertain to emissions. Here in caliBLOWnia smog laws are stupid strict. thanks. cheers...............
