Alirght i have an 87 turbo 7mgte with 118k miles on it. How long should i suspect the clutch to last for? How many more miles do you think should be on it? The previous owner took really good care of it

Also i am planning on exhaust 550cc injectors and lexus afm probally not the injectors and afm for a couple more years but this gives u an idea about what im planning for the car.

Stock clutches can last for 500 miles or 150,000 miles depending on abuse. With the nature of the MKIII and the driving styles of most owners, I am surprised that the factory one has lasted this long. I would consider budgeting for a new clutch in the near future.

i was looking for something in the 300 range
I was looking at the spec stage 2 and seems to hold good amount of power
Pressure plate.. flywheel...

Can i use my current flywheel? or should i get a lightened one while i have it apart

also i use it mostly on the street

My original clutch went out at 50,500 miles. I replaced it with a reman'd one. Within a couple years I was boosting to fuel cut - and love hitting boost. My 89 now has 186,000+ miles and the clutch is finally starting to show some wear - some slippage in 4th - but is still very driveable.

get a ceramic 6 puck, i had one made custom around here. i gave him a stock disk and all he used was the hub. its pretty streetable though you have to get used to driving it.

EDIT: oh and yes, SPRUNG HUB ONLY!

i hart my spec stage 2. very drivable on the street, although i never had a chance to dump it at 100,000RPM cuz i blew the rear main seal. so i had to get another clutch disk and am now breaking the new one in. when you do your clutch replace every seal you can get your hands on.

Heart, I would imagine...
Try to use context clues, Al.

Just think, would it make sense if he said: "i hate my spec stage 2. very driveable on the street"
Doesn't make sense, does it?

My friend had a 2wd Ranger with 550,000 miles on it, and on the original clutch!

yeah, spelling or typing was never one of my skills. i like my spec alot. i would suggest it to anyone. although i will have to waite untill spring before i can say how it preforms at the drag strip. my best friend is runing a spec stage 2 in his fc RX-7, hes been able to drive it hard and has had no issues at all.

This is just my experience, but I was able to run a 12.7 @110 on a stock clutch. Granted it didn't last too much longer after that, but I think the stock clutch can hold alot more than most people think, as long as you know how to shift and aren't burning it up all the time. I know I didn't start with "the" original clutch, but it already had quite a few miles on it when I got my car, and it lasted through me running mid 15's stock, then through a 60-1 CT upgrade up to fuel cut on stock maf where I ran high 13's, and then finally to the lex and 550's holding about 16psi which is when I ran the 12.7. It was only when the weather got cold and I started boosting past 17 in the lower gears that I really got slip. This was over the course of 3 summers as well, I didn't burn it up all in one season.

To back up my experience, Blue87TDan, another MI guy ran low 13's on "the" original clutch on his car, and both of us have a fistfull of time slips. I'm not saying he shouldn't get a new clutch, but the stock clutch is decent for mild upgrades. Just my 2 cents.
