hey, i just bought a 1988 stock supra turbo and i am brand new to boost and after looking in the owners manual i see that they have a picture of a boost gauge thats goes up to 8.... although mine goes from -2 up to 4? i am wondering if thats normal and if that is the psi i am gettin or what exactly those numbers mean. I am also trying to determine if my boost is working right according to my gauge, according to my boost guage i dont make any boost until i floor it or come close and it takes about 1 second before my boose guage pops up and tells me im making boose (about 3 on my guage), is this normal? should i be making more boost? any comments or answers would be greatly appreciated.

normal. stock guage is crappy, slow to react to change and innaccurate :p stock boost is 6.8 psi, although i cant remember if thats for the auto or manual.

Canadian models are in x100mm/Hg^2, basically just double the number it shows on there to get PSI. (-2 = -4, 2 = 4, 4 = 8).

The stock gauge is SLOW to react, if you get an aftermarket one you'll notice boost come on a lot quicker on the gauge.

Everything sounds perfectly normal.

Is it the car itself that makes the auto trans only run 4.8-6.0? Or is it a different wastegate actuator? My peak boost on the greddy EBC has been 5.9 PSI, and I would assume that it is fairly accurate. I did change turbos so maybe it came from an auto. But thats fine, as I plan for my low boost setting to be stock boost and my high boost setting to be between 10-12 psi :)

its the tranny... the wg actuator was changed by year not by transmission type...and even still they only got an extra lke .3 psi out of the wg flapper door change... not even worth mentioning...
