first things first, make sure your stinger is getting a good 12v power/ground.

2nd.
if running windows xp.. right click on "my computer", click on properties. Click on the harware tab. Click on device manager. From there find the "ports" icon..or your usb adapter may be under the it may be under the USB devices. Once you find the adapter you should be able to set it to what port you want it to use.

3rd.
In the stinger software, click on "Application settings">"paramaters">"Com port". Then set the com port, as the same port you set your usb adapter to under device manager.

I wouldn't think so, I'd just unplug the harness from the stinger, grab a voltmeter, touch the prongs to the + & - to see if you're getting power.

Did you run the software that comes with the adapter? If you dont' run that software, it won't read the usb adapter. Ask me how I know? I didn't even know my adapter came with a cd until someone told me. It was hidden in the package behind the lettering. Good luck.

Is your key on? I have to ask, just to make sure, and I dont' mean anything negative by it.

A green light in the lower right hand corner should come on meaning it's reading from the ecu or at least that it's connected.

My laptop has four ports. Have you tried all of the ports and restarted it? I had the same problem at the dyno one day for an hour and a half and we ended up having to go get another usb adapter because the one I had was for a macintosh or something like that and wouldn't work. It hooked up the same, but it wouldn't read from my laptop. Sorry I'm not much help, but I'm a computer idiot as well.

I messed with mine a few times today and it seems to be temperamental.

All I can tell you is to make sure it's plugged in all the way into the stinger. Then make sure the connectors to the adapter are as good as they can be. Mine works only in port number two which is on the left side of my laptop and the second one from me towards the back. I turn my car on first and then I click the stinger icon and it comes on and I go to ecu and click read from ecu and it reads it. The only problem I have is trying to close out my windows, my laptop responds with.........This devide doesnt' recognize that command.

Try that and see if it helps. Good luck.

If you have everything plugged in right with the stinger then you should have power fromt he ecu.
