The tsrm says to remove the steering knuckle i have to remove the upper control arm from where it bolts to the subframe and remove the lower ball joint from the bottom arm. then dissasemble on a bench. is this the easiest way? i have wd40/plus gas'd everything up that id need to undo if this was the case i just thought id check here to save myself any heartache/ unnesesary work.

also ive heard plus gas is a whole load better than wd40 so since im going to be droping the tank out to fix my leak can i buy plus gas in a spray can? the plus gas i used is like about 35-40 years old (my dad bought it when he was an apprentice mechanic lol)

cheers all

oh btw not sure if plus gas is available in the us. i cant find anything called pb blaster over here.

the wheel bearing is knackered. i got a whole replacement knuckle as its gotta be easier to swap em over. (this all started by trying to replace the abs sensor.) so i was going to remove the whole lot inc the upper and lower b/j's and disconect everything on a work bench.

i figured it would be easier than trying to force the upper and lower arms out of the way enough to get the knuckle off

the replacement seems to have no play, the one currently on the car has extreme amounts of play. like i can hold the studs in my fingers and easily rock it side to side and up and down.

i guess a 17mm or maybe 19 socket for the track rod end and a 21 mm spanner for the upper and lower b/j's.

well i havent had a chance today, had to go and measure up a house for some architects drawings. place had a swiming pool and everything lol (fairly unusual in the uk)

still i bought a can of plus gas to help with the release oil i put on yesterday. hopefully it will sort the nuts out so they come of more easily

its fitted. A passing friend saw me looking at it so pulled in to help me out. He works for the aa so is a fully qualified mechanic.

edit. the lower ball joint nut was a 22mm, the upper ball joint was a weird sized nut aswell. Is this usually the case?
