Hi,

What's the common feeling on Steel vs Aluminum Driveshafts? There isn't much price difference!

Other than additional vibration, are there any other drawbacks can be expected?

Thanks...

I guess it just depends on what you want to do. I'm going to get a steel driveshaft because I like to drag race! If I was doing more road racing or just driving around I would do the aluminum or get a new carrier bearing for your 2 piece.

Poodles swears by the 2 piece because toyota and their infinite wisdom put it in there. The 2 piece is great for a daily driver and a car that doesn't launch as much and keeps vibration down. But a good 1 piece steel should be just fine.

My car sees very little time at the strip. I street race whenever a worthy opponent is presented though. ;)

Mostly, I daily drive it and autocross it. Aaahhh........cone!!!!! :D

I had an aluminum 1 pcs driveshaft. Was great under 80mph, but anything above that and the whole car felt like it was going to rattle itself to pieces. Not worth it in my opinion.

How long ago was that. I"ve heard nothing but good things about Shaftmasters aluminum driveshafts. I think they do exensive balancing on there's before the ship them out.

Plenty of heavy duty trucks use aluminum driveshafts. But they don't have the shock load of launching on slicks.

My F150 has one and it's great for work, but it doesn't have enough power to twist a plastic drive shaft into pieces.........:biglaugh:

Ive been on an aluminum ds for a couple years now, while i was n/a and now while im turbo as well.I still feel the same way as i did when i was n/a, it feels great. My aluminum 1 peice does get shakey on topend runs to 150.When i was n/a i could never get it up that fast ;) Around 130 i feel it and by 150 your like i better let out. I dont believe its the material of the ds but the nature of how a 1 piece works especially when its approaching "critical speed."From here on out if i have to change a driveshaft again for whatever reason its going to be 2 piece stock or upgraded

The F150 is a long way from a heavy duty truck. Sorry. I was thinking more like something with a Diesel power plant. And a multi tonnage truck.

There is always a chance for vibration in a one piece. I've never owned one so I couldn't tell you. I think Aaron's (Fuzz420) is probably the norm for aluminum driveshafts. He posted above.

I had a Jaws Gears 1 piece steel with no issues. I didn't notice much of a difference between the stock unit and the 2 piece.
