I just picked up an 86.5 Supra and I cant get the damn thing to start. The guy said it needed a fuel pump which I can definitely say that it did and I replaced it with a denso this morning. I replaced the distrubitor cap and rotor, flushed the gas tank, put in 5 gallons of premium. Changed the plugs, checked fuses and relays. Engine simply turns over as if it werent getting spark but I can clearly see that it is. Timing is on spot and the dist rotor is at #1 at TDC. Any ideas?

are you for sure getting fuel? have you tried unhooking the fuel feed line and cranking the car? Have you tried putting the spark plug & wire on the chassis to see if it arc's?

ok that wont cause no spark, its supposed to do that. Physically remove the fuel line and see if fuel comes out when you attempt to start the car.

As far as checking spark take #1 plug out leave it connected to the wire and set it on your strut tower attemp to crank teh car over, is the spark plug sparking or arcing? if so your getting spark and its more then likely something with your timing.

ok, I am definitely getting fuel, no question. I pulled the cold start and it was under good pressure. I did the spark test with the actual plug an dno spark at all that way. Does that mean the coil isnt charging the plug enough to fire

it could be anything from your coilpack to plug wires to igniter. Id start going through the TSRM on how to test each thing.

Remember, too, that the CSI will spray fuel even if the injectors aren't getting a pulse signal.

Still, sounds like your spark is the issue at the moment.

Ok, now I am definitely getting spark at the plug. Its daytime so I cant tell how strong it is but hopefuly strong enough to start the car. How can i check the injectors?

Damn, it seems like it wants to start. When its turning over you can hear it fire about 1 out of 10 revolutions. I'm going to pull the TB today and pull all the plugs and bast some compressed air in there , maybe theres some water on top of the pistons.

Could a bad TPS cause the car not to start? I am getting spark and fuel (to the rail at least) I guess I will have to pull the injectors and soak them for a few hours.

To correctly check your injectors you need a set of noid lights. Unplug the injector and the noid light into the injector's harness connector. If it lights up it is pulsating and working properly.

Problem was the catalytic converter. I pulled the exhaust and it fired right up. Thanks for all the help troubleshooting it. I was stumpted seeing as my timing was on and I was getting spark and fuel I guess I just wasnt getting air. You should have seen that damn thing. It looked like the exxon valdez went through it.
