Starting Issues

When the car is cold, and hasnt been started in over 24 Hours, I've got to keep cranking the car over.

When I push on the accel pedal, the car's voltage takes a sudden dip, and the fuel pump makes a clicking sound. When I finally get it to start running, if I dont touch the accel pedal, it idles at about 700 or so RPMS, when I push the pedal, it dips down to about 450-500 rpms and its a very hard loping sound. I have to hold the throttle at WOT, for about 5-10 mins for it to break the 1200 rpm mark, and then it finally opens up and sounds/acts normal, until I let off of the throttle. When I let off and it dips below 1000rpms it starts the hard loping issue again.

Tons of hesitation when pumping the gas pedal.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Have you read over the threads at the bottom of this page to see if they have the same problem as you? I"d look over them and see if I could get any help there as well. Good luck.

Checked over some of the threads going on ( going back 3 pages ) There arent any other problems quite like the one I've got going on.

My belief is that the fuel pump is either going out, fuel filter is plugged, or that I've got a short in/near/around my fuel pump.

who knows... it could be all 3. I just did a Fuel Injection cleaning on the car ( I did it myself - work at a shop. I didnt pay some asshat 150$ to do it for me )

Have you checked the TPS according to the TSRM? Also there are checks for the FP resistor, AFM, I'd start with those and go from there.

jump fb and +b on the diag box. you can usually hear a clean smooth flow of fuel. what color smoke coming out the tail pipe when this happens? i cant imagine its clear. i'd check the fuel pressure before you check the fuel pump...much easier doing that first.

I finally pulled the head and everything else. I've got water in the oil and the HG was beautiful when I got the head off.

So... Next question.. will a Cressida engine bolt right in? ( I'm thinking about buying a shortblock )

Yes, you have to change the oil pan and oil pump.

Why not rebuild the one you have?

if its the same as the stock 7m in the jap supras then you have to decide if you want the egr system if you do its alot more into to it but if your getting a short block you shouldn't have to much to worry about. just make sure that you put the motor mounts in the right spot. the oil pan is different because the motor mounts ar closer to the front and you have to chang the pump because it pulls closer to the front and the pump has a larger pick up on it. other than that it lines up nicely. i just put a jdm engine in mine and except for working on gravel it went in really quickly and easily.
