Let see I have a starter problem I belive it is the solinoid because when it gets hot I have to wait until it cools, then it will start. I have read other threads on Supramania and they have other theories. But isn't the solinoid attached to the starter on the 89's ?? I just put the new (remanu) starter on from autozone about 2-3 months ago it was working fine untill this week now the same problem as the old one I replaced? Any one know how to fix or should I just plan on replacing it evrey couple months ? :1zhelp:

First, I wouldn't buy anything from autozone.
Second, it could be a lot of things.
Have you checked to see if the solonoid gets power from the relay?
If its an auto tranny, it could be the neutral start switch.
If its a M/T, it could be the clutch switch.
It could be the relay.
Heck, it could be that you don't have good contact on the cable running from the battery to the starter.
If you've replaced the starter, then its probably not the starter (although you did get it from autozone).

The solenoid from Toyota is cheap enough and fixes the problem for a long time... Taking the starter off and replacing it requires much dexterity and patience, but it's better than paying a tech big money to do it for you. It must be done from the bottom using long extensions aimed at the top bolt from the trans... and a stubby of angled box end as you reach up over the top to unfasten the upper bolt and nut. The replacement solenoid is a quick replacement and fixed mine and another I fixed for my brother without any further hitches.
