Having starter problems and need to get to the contacts, and if it is crappy enough just gonna buy a new starter. Now, that being said is there a toyota supra manual online that wasnt written for a mechanic?... http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/st/ST_03.html it basically skips the ..entire process for removing the starter.

Ive owned supra for 3 months but not a car noob, once I can actually see it ill know what to do. The problem is access I just wanna know how you guys got to your starter (pre 89 supras since, someone said its harder to get to than 89-92) from top or bottom, if or what you take off to get to it, and how long of a job is it to get to it? Thanks

I have a 1986.5 , and I think ypu can only do it from below.

By the steps.
1. Jack car up and place on jack stands(very important unless your sure you can bench 3500 lbs :aigo: )

2. Disconnect battery very important, I have seen the slagged remains of wrench that became a short. not pretty or fun.

3. Disconnect positive and start signal wires.

4. Using socket wrench with 14 mm head(might be 12 MM) and appropriate extension remove the two bolts attaching starter to the block the bottom one is easy the top one will find you flying blind but it can be done.

5. manuver starter out of car through the bottom. It may be easyer to do this with eninge raised abit, you will have to remove the lower engine mount bolts and jack engine up a few inches with floor jack.

installation is just reverse

If you are working on a car it is a good idea to have a friend around just in case. and afterwords you can :drink1:

Your right Toyohabu. I had to use two 14 inch extensions to reach mine. Took some grunting but they busted loose. Not to mention you have to have some nimble fingers. Good luck on this. Hope to see you get it fixed and back on the road Cedrock15.
