Well I did one of those spur of the moment, impulse buys... hope it's not a stupid one. I picked up a beautiful, fully polished Starion IC for $60.00 on e-bay. Looks like it will fit okay with some minor fabrication of brackets, and a mod on some of the piping, ( gonna' do all hard pipes in mild steel ) Does anybody know how good they stack up against the stocker? It is longer by about 4", about the same height, and a little thicker. The thing that hooked me the most though, is how much better looking it is! It actually looks like a higher priced IC, like a Greddy or Spearco! I'll put some pic's up when it gets here. Would appreciate anybodys opinion, and /or experiences with these.

If I'm not mistaken, the Conquest / Starion IC has 1 1/2" in & out pipes, causing a big (really big) flow problem. I could be wrong, but I think I'm right.

The auction info listed the piping @ 1.75", but why coudn't I modify it to 2" like our stock ic? Does a quarter of an inch really make that much difference if the intercooler is more effiecient than the stock one?

all star/quests were the G54B 2.6 liter SOHC TBI motors. only the later ones were intercooled.

the intercoolers are "upgrades" for DSM's with the 4G63 and non-intercooled cars.

the starion fmic is probably THE single most worthless intercooler to be used as a FMIC. people assume they are good because they are FMIC's but they are quite restrictive and not very efficient.

sorry to break it to you, but you just wasted your money. the stock 7MGTE intercooler blows this piece of shit away.

sell it to a DSM owner and hope you can get your money back.

so you're saying that the US models all had the 2.6 engine? oops, I wasn't aware of that. very interesting, though.
in Europe, the Starion came with a 2-liter turbo non-intercooled engine with 170hp from 82 to 85 (i think), 2-liter intercooled with 180hp from 85 to 87 and the 2.6 G54B intercooled with 155hp from 87 to 89.

Well, the Supra's parts never cease to amaze me. I'm not really surprised(after really thinkin' bout it) that Toyota is far superior to dsm. I might not actually have to worry about it though, as it stands, looks like the deal is not going to happen. Seller has an unregistered paypal, and my money is just sitting there x 3 days now. Seller hasn't responded to any e-mails. Deadlines Sunday, then it's on to a Spearco, or other. Thanks for the info, hard to look at your own stupidity sometimes, but if it will save me some scratch, I'll take the cc.
