Stalling and sputtering

Just recently had a friend drop in a JDM engine. He did a compression test and got good numbers:
1: 150
2: 150
3: 150
4: 150
5: 145
6: 150

He told me to take it for a test drive, I put it in reverse and out of his garage, I stall as I put it in neutral. I thought it was driver error, so I turn it back on and try to drive around the street. If I let off the gas, the RPMs will fall under 500 and just stall out. If I try to go higher (or rev) past 1500 RPMs, it'll start sputtering almost similar to fuel cut. We checked timing and all was perfect. He believes it might have something to do with the electric stuff. Either the AFM or Ignitor he says, but we checked for codes and none were present.

What else would it be?

WHAT THE FUCK is with 7Ms and BAD EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKETS?! :momaru: Everywhere I look I see people have to replace there's; my friend with his Cressida did, and I think I do too! As if the head gasket wasnt bad enough :p

Otherwise...I'm going to say spark plugs/spark plug wires if not MAF.

Also, check your vaccuum lines and electrical connectors..one time my car ran incredibly shitty, despite running fine earlier. Turns out it was just because I forgot to re-hook up a vaccuum line

our cars dont have MAFS but thats ok ;)

its NOT gonna be the exhuast manifold gasket... your problems sound like the afm to me...it doesnt have to throw a code for it to be bad FYI. have you spec tested it per TSRM?
