Hey guys, just wondering if it was possible to get an 88 supra without TEMS and still get the sport package.... because my car has the headlamp washers and i'm wondering if it also has an lsd (picking it up tomorrow, cant wait!)... but it doesnt have TEMS....

did the open diff on the supra have cooling fins? Because w/e is in my car has cooling fins...

Yes the open diffs had cooling fins. The cases were the same, the internals were different.

It was possible to get the LSD option without the sport package. However from what I understand all Canadian MKIII had LSD's. I could be wrong but that is what I remember hearing. You can also check the engine code to be sure. If the circled number is a 5 or a 3 you have a LSD.

I have owned 4 7MGE 5 Speed Supras. None of which were the sports package, and 3 had LSD. Sports package was a way to get a few more bucks from the customer. And it adds a few more pounds.

My car has the headlamp washers and from checking up the vin, it has never seen canadian soil. Maybe my car was just extremely option laden. ABS, headlight washers, TEMS, pw, pl, pm, factory alarm, & spoiler it pretty much came with everything but a targa top and the turbo.

I took the front lip off of mine. It was so cracked up that I couldn't even crazy glue it together. It was spider webbed around both corners, so I just left it off. tems, abs moon roof, I have all of that. But what is this lsd thing I have been seeing and hearing about? What is it? Where is it? What does it do? Any clarity brought to my attention about the lsd would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All.

LSD = Limited Slip differential... opposed to the open diff that comes standard on the NA's

It's the rear end of the car pretty much... It allows the car to put more power to the wheel that has the most traction... ex. one tire on ice, other on pavement... it will put the power to the wheel on the pavement...

I'll let an expert explain it more...

lsd - limited slip differential. You can find it under the car, between the rear wheels in front of the gas tank. Wish I had a pic, which would make things easier, maybe someone will pop up with one, hint hint. :naughty:

A LSD basically doesnt allow one drive wheel to spin much faster than the other, there are are quite a few different LSDs though Viscous, locking, Clutch, and Torsen

Here is a good link, read up and learn :icon_razz http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

alright....., duh. I kept thinking that everyone meant to be typing led and it was some type of bulb. Damn I can't believe I forgot that, I just call it limited slip. Thanks again 1 tuff. I actually came back in here because I wanted to say that I can't wait till you get your car running. Even on a trailor it's beautifull. There shouldn't be much guess work required with the limited slip, you either only smoke one tire or you smoke them both.

I smoke them both, although I don't make a habit of it. My old lady doesn't dig it when I try to enjoy driving the car. Can you guys shoot me the name of the first gasket coming off of the y pipe for the air intake? What's a good replacement hose without going to toyota. Mines cracked out real bad and needs to be replaced. It's working for now but not for much longer. I guess I should just go fipk. I refuse to believe I HAVE to get it from the "stealership".

Thanks a lot! I cant wait to get it running either. I just got into a little trouble with "da man" recently though and kind of got hit in the pocket so Ill have to put the project on hold for about a month. But Im working crazy overtime at work so it shouldnt be too much longer since I already have quite a bit of parts.
