Well it's been a couple weeks since I had my head gasket fixed... well I have developed a pretty nasty oil leak.. just pourin out.. so take my car to the dealership to get the valves shimmed (sounds amazing now!) and to get the oil leak inspected.. I assumed it was my rear main seal, since the oil is leaking from around the area the motor mounts with the tranny... well toyota put some uv reactive dye in the oil and it turns out the oil is coming from the head gasket area... well I know the shop that did my hg job only torqued them to 55ft/lbs, I wanted them to do it to 76-80 but didnt say anything just incase something happened, so they couldnt say, but you told us to do it such and such a way, and not warantee their work.

so basically what i'm tryin to say is... would only torquing the head to 55 ft/lbs cause such a nasty oil leak from the head? The head was machined, and a composite gasket was installed.

Thanks...

try torquing it to where you want it and hope that solves it. if it doesn't then take it back. I mean 55ftlbs is like finger tight to these cars.

oh no, it's going back for sure on tuesday... they are fixing it :icon_evil

I agree..., you should take it back. But when you get it home this time torque it down. 75lbs is fine 80 may be a bit accessive. Sorry to hear that man. it really bited but it shouldn't have hurt the hg. If they followed the correct bolt pattern.
