Spewing Coolant from TB

Ok, I'll try to keep this short.

I've got an '88 Turbo, and I'm loosing coolant from under the throttle body, I think from the hose that goes down from the TB. I pulled it out, and it looked fine, though the spring clamp wasn't in the right place. So I put the clamp back, and put everything together, and I've still got the same problem. It's also running rough, which it wasn't before I did the job, but it was pouring rain all day so I think it just needs to dry.

Now a local guy that works for a small speed shop told me I could bypass the TB and everything would be cool. He seems to know his stuff so I thought I'd give it a try, but I wanted to ask you guys what y'all thought.

Any opinions?

Take the throttle body off and inspect it to find where the coolant is coming from. If you cant find anything there check your hoses in that area. Should be pretty obvious. It may be running rough if you altered the tps in some way while trying to fix it.

There is this small hose that I completely missed when I put the head and everything together.
I was dumping coolant out of an open port under the TB, just took it off and found the open holes and hooked up my hose.
No more problems.

Ok, a quick update.

I pulled the TB off and checked the hoses coming to and going from it. They're fine. After putting everything back together I started her up and took a closer look.

I'm still loosing coolant, and quick, but I finally found where it's coming from. It's leaking from a hole in the hose coming down from the part circled in the picture below. The problem now is that I don't know what this part is, so looking up info on removing it is damned impossible.

What is this part? How do I get it off to get to the hose beneath it? How do I go about replacing that hose?

thats the ISC, two 12mm bolts hold it onto the intake manifold + two coolant lines + the big line that goes to the accordian pipe...the coolant line that goes to the ISC comes from the throttle body...as someone already said, you can completely bypass the coolant lines to the throttle body and the isc by just running a hose under the intake manifold where the coolant line goes to the TB and just run the hose to where the line comes from the ISC. hope this helps..

Your ISC isn't plugged in?

The only reason there are coolant lines running to these two things (TB and ISC) is so that they warm up the air passing through them faster when its cold out. Its not needed, but it aids the engine when its warming up.

I think the isc is unplugged because hes working on it.. :icon_conf Same with the fuel pressure reg. vac hose. Then again I could be wrong.

I got the same Problem with those crazy coolant line.. So it safe to bypass the lines i see..

any suggestions on how to get to the 2 ports to by-pass the coolant in the isc and t/b w/o removing the upper intake manifold? are they easily accessable once you pull of the t/b and isc?

The inlet and outlet that you need to connect are both under the lower intake manifold iirc. I know the one that goes to the isc goes to the head via a port on the bottom of the lower intake. Then the other side of it all goes to a port on the coolant hardline that runs around the block. I think its under the egr valve... Let me go look.

i know where they are, but how the hell do you get to them to have enough access to put a hose on them and tighten up a hose clamp?

1 is under the 1/2 runner, and the other come off the bypass pipe from around the back of the head, under #6 runner. i was trying to see/feel the hoses to determine how to get to them, and there seems to be no way in hell w/ out removing the intake manifold.

Well the one of the throttle body actually turns into a hardline between runners 4 and 5. If you have someone around with small hands, it may be possible. You would have to reach under the manifold from the top though. The other one would seem to be the tough one.

2) I'm deffinately for bypassing the ISC and TB, but I think I'm gonna take her down to my friendly-local-speed-shop and have them do it. I've got big hands and I'm kinda clumsy, so if they can do it for not-too-much, Cool

For anyone who decides to do this yourself, please let me know how you decide to go about doing it. If it turns out to be a pain, I'll feel better about paying someone to do it for me.

you should be able to get to it with the upper intake manifold on...but it will deffinately be easier to just take it off.
