Exactly as stated. I swapped the cable about 2 years ago or so. Upper and lower from DM. R154, turbo cluster, 231k.

I was driving at ~40 or so and looked down again and it said 0. I got under the car last night and externally everything looks fine but I don't have time to pull it apart for a few days.

Any common failure points or good things to check?

So a few days ended up meaning several weeks.

Since I don't like to leave threads open with no resolution...

There's really only 4 parts to check. The gear on the trans, the short cable, the long cable, and the speedometer itself.

Mine ended up being the upper cable so my $100 is on its way to Toyota for the 2nd time in 4 years and I'll be back under there next weekend. I do believe heat wrap for the downpipe is in my future as there was someone else who mentioned their upper cable going out recently in the General section.

That little elbow that attaches the short cable to the speedo gear is a very common failure. Not a cheap one either. Replace the entire cable system. You can get it from Driftmotion or Toyota. DM might be a little cheaper though.
