hey guys, i have a similar question, I just replaced the speedo cables on my car that have been broken since Ive owned it. The speedo works now, but the needle starts wayyyy below 0mph and doesnt start moving till the car gets a decent speed. It seems the speedo is reading a lot slower than the car is going but I cant tell too much. Im not sure if this is normal or not, or if it needs to be adjusted??? thanks

The bounce is natural under ~20MPH. IIRC,it's due to the clutch in the speedometer needle's drive mechanism grabbing and slipping... and yes, analogue speedometer do wear out.

As for checking the calibration get someone with a newer car (preferably one with an electronic speedometer) to drive in front of you at a set speed. The faster they drive the easier it will be to tell how much your speedometer is off by. Beyond that get it professionally calibrated.

I have calibrated my needle to be below 0, about 15kph or so, cause otherwise, it'll read the cityspeed and my ''highway'' speed wrong too.

-10 mph :D No wonder, that driving at 25mph was ''fast'' before (when needle rested at 0) :)

Its weird, I looked through the photo galleries at peoples speedos, i saw a bunch that started at 0, and a bunch that started like 1/4" below 0, Either way my car starts like an 1" or more below 0, so now the question is... how do I adjust it to be back around 0?? Some people mentioned just pushing the needle??? would that work by just taking the cover off with guages still installed in the car or do I need to remove the whole cluster again??
