My speedometer cable seems to be a bit noisy and jumpy at the gauge connector. I'm not positive it is that connector, but it used to be a lot worse until I was able to plug it in better at the dash, so I assume that was the only problem. The thing is, it's still a bit inconsistent and a bit noisy, so I'm wondering if it'd be worth trying to lubricate the upper end with PTFE (dry, spray can lubricant).
