my speedo started shaking then gave out which i am planning on fixing but the cruise control went out with it.. does this tell me which cable is broken i hear there two peice its on my 89T..

No speedo = no speed sensor. No speed sensor = no cruise control. The speed sensor is also used by the EFI ecu in several ways. Better get it fixed pronto.
It is two pieces...the long cable going from the dash; a short cable going under the downpipe. The short one is easy to get to...just unscrew it from the fittings and see if the cable turns by hand. You can hook the longer cable up to a drill and run it at low speed...if your speedo works (someone in the car) then it's not the long cable.
Make sure you don't kink the cable...also look for a melted area around the downpipe. I had to shield mine from the heat...my downpipe melted the casing When it solidified when the car was turned off...the cable snapped.

There is a speed sensor in the dash. How this signal is used other than for the cruise contol dont know, most modern cars use the abs signal for speed signal now. There is also a nylon gear that can crack in the tranny.

That's weird, that means my transmission ECU must be busted then. My speedo did not work for the longest time on my 88 turbo supra... I've gone WOT and put ECT function on and it shifted through all gears fine. Well you did say "usually" so hmmm...
