Speedo not working

Hey guys, quick issue here. The speedometer and odometer on my '91 Turbo are not working. Tach works fine though. The guy I bought it from said that he had the transmission rebuilt shortly before I purchased it from him. Do you think the transmission shop could have forgotten to hook the cable back up, or could it be a separate issue?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Most likely either not plugged in (VERY easy to check), the driven gear is bad/stripped, or the cable snapped internally. The speedo itself is rarely the issue. Not saying it can't happen but 95 out of 100 stop working because of the cable and 4 of the 5 left are the driven gear.

How would I check if it's not plugged in? Something tells me this is the problem. Would I have to take the cluster out?

One end of the cable is on the passenger side of the transmission near where the cat sits. It's the only cable in that area. It should go from the trans, into the bay near the downpipe, and behind the head into the firewall.

If everything looks good there the other end is in the back of the cluster and you would have to take the cluster out to see it. If everything else checks out to this point you can see it spin if you take it around the block with the cluster out.

No spin = drive gear or cable. Take the drive gear out of the trans and inspect it before ordering the cable.

I think I found the problem. This little gear popped out when I took the cable apart. Ordered a new one from the dealer today. That's a pretty pricey part...

The short cable?
Mine was $16 from the dealership.

And Speedometer Plus quoted me $40 for a new long cable, vs. oem $115+

Now if you meant the metal elbow, well yeah.
Driftmotion sells them for $89.

Yeah, it's the metal elbow piece that seems to be broken. Just ordered it from the dealer for a little more than the Driftmotion price.
