i changed the guage, that didnt fix it. So my question is, will my speedo from my 86.5 work with my 89 turbo car? Also, how hard it the speedo cable to replace?

The cable has three diffrent sections to it and is pretty easy to replace.. Start at the section that goes into the tranny!

the cable should work how ever, my 86.5 cable worked with my 88 engin/tranny for about 10km then it took a dump, I have been to lazy to figure out where it is broken. its at the end of my fix it list lol. And just my luck I gave away my other cable the week before this happened.

3 pieces, unhook it from the transmission and spin the cable inside, have a friend watch the speedo (it shouldn't move) take that first section by the tranny off the cable and spin the next piece to see if the speedo moves, then remove that piece, then spin the last piece (the long $100 piece) that goes from under the car to the speedo. That should let you know which piece is busted. That's what I did 2 weeks ago and it turned out I only needed the $7 1 foot long piece (I think it lists for like $13 or something)

Don't buy the $100 cable if you don't need it. The short piece at the end only took me like 3 or 4 minutes to swap out. Piece of Cake! good luck!

anyone noticed after replacing the speedo cable behind the gauges that the speedo needle stops fluttering? mine still flutters.... I've changed the speedo itself, and the speedo cable with a brand new one from toyota behind the gauge cluster. only thing left for me to replace is the other 2 pieces that go to the transmission.

i replaced it with a used one. i was told it was good but i guess i have no way of knowing. it wobbles the same way the other one did, so i don't imagine they could be equally defective?
