SPEEDO FAILURE

so i turned my car on and went to the store, my speedo worked fine, when i letf the store, it stopped working, i checked the speedo cable and it was still hooked up any suggestions?......also the tensioner pully i believe finally wore out and broke, what is the part number for that?:aigo: :3d_frown: oh and this is on a 1jz

Speedo cable probably needs to be replaced. Happened to me and lots of others. Buy a known working one from a member/get one from a junkyard and swap it out.

There is a little pigtail next to your tranny for the speedo cable that always breaks I have replaced them many times takes like five minutes. It costs like 11 dollars and you have to get it from toyota. Just look under the car from the tranny back and you will see a foot long section that has a screw off disconnect and I guarentee it is broke right next to the tranny cause the key peice will fall out.

do you have the 2 piece cable or the 1 piece? i have both and im waiting to see which to use for when i get my car running

if its the 2 peice cables, you can pull them off 1 by 1 and spin them manually to see which one needs to be replaced. It will save you alot of time if the first cable off the tranny needs to be replaced

i had the piece that goes into the tranny go bad same thing i was driving and then one second later no more speedo

i have the 2 piece one, i'll put it on the hoist and see, where can i get the T-belt tensioner from?...can i get it from a 7m?

not to hijack, but I have same problem (well, my speedo never work since got the car),

MKIII with Aristo 2JZ, do I need the same cable/pigtail thingy? Are the parts compatible. This car has R154 Tranny...

Or should I be sourcing from a MKIV Supra or Aristo manual tranny?

what transmission is in your car? you can see the cable coming out of where the gauge cluster is in the firewall and it goes down to the transmission

if you have an r154 you use the same cable

You might want to check that your speedo gear isn't chewed all up.
