so whats the best way to remove and replace the long speedo cable? (the one that plugs into the back of the cluster) also does the cable have to be lubed with gearbox oil? thanks guys

The speedo(if new) doesn't need to be lubed.

1. Remove gauge cluster, lift head of cable up to remove it from its cradle in the dash.
2. Pry firewall grommet out to release.
3. Unscrew long cable from short cable near the rear of the passenger side of the transmission.
4. pry back the two small tabs that hold the cable up against the transmission tunnel/ underside.
5. Remove.

If you are replacing due to failure, make sure that the short cable still works. Remove it from transmission, and spin one end, and verify the other end spins with it.
