Speedo cable help!! Decipher these pics!

Pics need help... 
At a guess, I'd say that's either your backup lights, or your tranny speed sensor plug. If it's running, turn the key to on and put it in reverse to check the one, and hammer the snot out of the brakes to see if you still have antilock braking for the other.
This is all dependant on that connector being an electrical connection, of course.

Sounds like the reverse lights sensor then. It's really not critical. Unfortunately, IIRC this plugs into the TOP of the tranny.
Yeah, have fun with that one. It's a bitch. I always have had to lower the tranny down and stick my hand through the shifter hole to get at the plug it connects to since it's on top. Last time I ended up cutting off that plug and lengthening the wires so I could plug it in and drop the wires down to where I could reach them and reconnect/shorten
