I'm taking my plugs out because i have a suspected BHG and i'm trying to verify what it's done if i do indeed have one...

And i got to the 6th plug (the furthest from the front of the car incase its not #6) and I tried to take it out and I got it to turn and it was really tight, so i kept going and didn't get more than maybe 1/2 - 1 turn before giving up because it's incredibly tight for a plug...it should have eaised up by now and hasnt

I reversed and screwed it back in a bit and that is eaiser, but when i unscrew it again i get to the same point where i stopped last time and hit a TON of friction....

Please help, i dont know what could be wrong unless it's severly stripped and somehow the previous owner screwd the WHOLE PLUG in without meshing the threads...

When i took went to remove plug#5 it wasn't even tight...it was like someone tightened it with their FINGERS! i just bumped my wrench on accident getting ready to turn it and the plug turned.... not really a problem but it would explain part of why my engine was running a little jerky...

please help, i dont want to hurt the head trying to get this plug out, i sprayed some penetrating lubricant (ACE hardware - smells like WD40) into the sparkplug hole, enough to emerse the plug...waited a bit and it didn't help, so now i need assistance so i dont bust something....

get a flash light and take a look at the threads, and check it u see anything that is not suppose to be there. if the threads are stripped than you will need to get a tap to fix the threads.

Penetrating oil over night from the topside might help cut the buildup enough to loosen them.

I have also used a small amount of water through the intake (teaspoon of water at a time) when running at high idle to break the carbon buildup down off the plugs on other motors.

If you get them out without thread damage, you can use a small amount of Anti-sieze on the new plugs to prevent this in aluminum heads.

Thanks for the replies.

On my way back to the #6 I also proved myself right when i found that the first two plugs were the same model but the writing was a different color suggesting only the 1 and 2 plugs were changed last... the rest have more carbor buildup and match.

The 5th and 6th plug holes were immersed in oil, up to about halfway up the ceramic on the plug, so I have a moderate valve cover leak... no biggie right now, but it might explain the oil in the threads...but i would think #5 would have been a bitch to remove if oil could make it difficult to remove...which goes against what i would think... if someone could go more in depth as to why people think that could make something like this difficult please do! lol...

The only other explination we could find was that the plug broke or is breaking in half, which will leave the threaded portion in the head for me to remove later....:icon_conf

I'll go try cranking it hard and see how far i can get...i would have earlier but i was afraid of breaking something....

Typically the valve guide seals will start leaking oil past the valves into the combustion chamber and onto the plugs tips when started.. Since the threads extend into the combustion chamber, oil can build up on the plug tips making them hard to remove. I would guess excessive blowby could also gunk up the threads. Oil sitting on the topside of the plug will not seep past the plug unless it's cracked loose. My best guess any ways..:)
