if you get the right stock number you dont need to gap. If you get the wrong stock number, then you need to gap. I got a different stock number because I got all 6 on eBay for only a few bucks, then regapped them myself. Been running perfect ever since.

Yeah, looks close. I'm not a big fan of those types of gap checkers (prefer the wire type) but that should work. Remember, the ignition system will use whatever voltage is needed to overcome the gap and once the mixture is ignited the voltage across the plug will never be more than 4-5kv anyway.

.031 is .031 inches, more commonly known as "31 thou" or "31 thousands of an inch"

For stock setup (ie. not boosting 20psi+), I've seen values from .028"-.032" work just fine

Dude, it's thousands of an inch, noone gets it exactly right. As stated above, run anywhere from .028" - .032" and you'll be just fine. If you start boosting extremely high and start experiencing blowout, ie. misfiring at high rpm, then you'll need to gap slightly smaller.

The second you modded your car there was no "right answer" it all depends on the car as there are so many variables that will affect the gap!

Try 30 see how it runs if it breaks down up high drop the gap if it doesn't break down go slightly bigger.
