Alright, the housing is what I'm getting at... What's the A/r, and how does the exhaust side flow compared to a genuine T4 with a 3" vband outlet?

JT, didn't mean to exclude ya, buddy ;) I've been looking into your turbos as well - and I do like what I see :)

Particularly that JT56Lightning :D

The JT56Lightning is a 56mm compressor with an O trim exhaust wheel, I'm
getting one built and putting it on my MKII, and then in a few weeks I'll be
going to dyno it, and have dyno numbers at like 12/17/22psi and carefully tune
it so people will get a good idea exactly what number it will run. Then I'll send
it BACK to Jon to have him upgrade it to a BB version, and dyno again. A lot
of people want to know specs on everything, but better "numbers" are what
this turbo or that turbo will do on a 7M-GTE engine, when does it come on
how hard, fast, etc.

I don't know the a/r of the stainless housing. I can tell you the LIPP rear
housing flows quite well, and it is the same housing, machined for a bigger
or smaller wheel depending on if you want a stage 3, 4, O trim, P trim Q
trim. I _believe_ its about a .68 a/r housing. But I'll try to get bettrer
numbers.

When you do your dyno runs, can I suggest you start them at 2k or so? Nothing irritates me more than seeing dyno runs starting at 3-4k. Tells you nothing about the lag characteristics of the turbos.

Thanks

Sure it does. You know when your turbo comes online, then start your dyno at 1k below that.

If you start a dyno run at 2k or lower, you're only asking to start breaking sh!t.

my dyno runs usually start at 3800 rpm. i have to do this because of my high stall converter.
not sure about the boss, jt, etc. but the sp61 bolt on housing was a little smaller than my .63 a/r gn housing. if you arent fam w/ the gn housing it is bigger than a t3 but a tad smaller than a t4. so id say it is closer to a .58 a/r than the .68 a/r. not sure if the turbos you guys are talking about are the same size as the sp or not, but might be a reference point atleast.

im going to be getting a boss turbo this week, but im not sure which one i want or should get. What is the difference between a big shaft and a standard shaft? and what does a bigger trim do? also i know it is a bolt on turbo but will i have to modify anything or buy anything new to put it on?

a boss turbo will bolt-right in... big shaft means more boost with added reliabity..

go for a stage 5, 63mm or so... you'll be happy..

tell me mike malloy sent you...

Also dont forget the sp HO bolt ons. They have different turbine housing compared to original sp bolt on. I have the sp58 and it has .60 compressor housing, .81 turbine housing, 61mm compressor wheel and ? - turbine wheel.
Comes with its own 3inch down pipe and 38mm external waste gate. It spools great, Id say around 15psi at 3200rpm. It should also get me to low-mid 400s at the wheel.
