PICTURES OF THESE SEXY GEARS BELOW!!!!

I just replaced my bent stock cam gears with duanes old AEM ones. The install went way quick, much faster than I expected.

Once I got around a few minor problems and got it running I hear a new and unusual whining sound coming from the cam gear area. I called duane and had him listen to it and he said it didn't happen on his car so it must have been caused by something I did during the install. It didn't happen before with my old gears.

I took a video of the sound hoping someone could help me idenfity it?

Its 5.4 megs.

Are these cam gears adjustable? Maybe they aren't perfectly on 0? It sounds like the timing belt teeth aren't lining up on both cams...

They're perfectly on 0 and everything is lining up PERFECT, visually :)

the spring tensioner provides enough tension on the belt. no need to make it tighter. just make sure it doesn't move when you crank it down.

See that's where I got confused... When I loosened the bolt and let the spring doall the work it got too loose for comfort, so I undid the bolt again, spun the crank a few times, then tightened it back and it was alot tighter... I think its good now... not too loose and doesn't whine.

Great you got it fixed Justin. I mentioned that the bolt should be replaced and we thought it would be ok. I am guessing that the bolt that is in question IS THE ONE..yes? :biglaugh:

Awesome!

I was right! the belt was stretched slightly! You should think about getting a new spring for your tensioner, they tend to get lazy.
Not really he just got it a little wrong when he adjusted em :)

You need to take up the slack on the non tensioner side then let the spring set the tension and lock up the bolt.

It was the bolt that had a lil burr on it. I gave him the bolts when I sold the cam gears to him. (bolts need to be smaller when fitting the gears as the factory ones hit them) I told him the one bolt should be replaced but thought ahhh...maybe it could work. Obviously not.

Now on to the pics of the gears on your ride!

Duane: AEM supply button heads for the Tin cover but I still had to machine 2mm off each adjuster bolt for clearance.

My above post was really just about the belt tension as it has potential if set wrong to jump teeth :(

Sorry dude..didn't mean to hurt your feelings. So ... you still like me?! :biglaugh:

Duane

PS: I realize they come with it but I don't remember taking anything off mine? I better double check mine when I fire it up with my new gears. Nice info on the belt to by the way.

LMAO nah no hurt feelings here I think we were addressing 2 different issues!

My AEM's are the old 3 bolt ones I'm not sure if they corrected it with the new 5 bolters!

When I first installed mine I started to degree the new Cams it turned 1/4 turn and locked up Solid I thought "Arghhhh Valves are hitting now I have to pocket the pistons"

Huge sigh of relief when I found that the bolts were too long! :)

Here's the timeline duane. I made the mistake of attempting to use the f'd screw first... both gears were scrapeing the screws.

I replaced the f'd one and they still were scrapeing. I ground a few mm off the heads and now there's no issues!
