Hi all

I hope i am posting in the right section

I need sos help and advice

My clutch master cylinder fails ... She did it 3 times already
We dont have parts available in this country right now so i have to wait at least one week till the new master cylinder arrives
I am not an expert-all the things i know is from this site
I have my 7mgte for 7 years and went through almost everything except this

I need your advice asap
Can I use the car till the new one arrives
Till this point (last three days) she did it 3 times already

Description of the problem
When I stuck in heavy traffic ( and I have to slip the clutch several times-trying to avoid it ,but sometimes i cant) after shifting several times the clutch pedal stays in ...And I cant shift
I pull it up with my hand and it seems to be good for a while again
But after a few shifting the problem comes back again
My question is and please help me out:
What is the worst scenario what can happen?
Is it possible that it stucks so hard I can not pull the clutch pedal up with my hand?
Or I can but I wont be able to shift?
She is my only car I have many programs (important ones -taking my dad to hospital for example) and I have to know before I start my trip is she REALIABLE STILL?CAN A TOTAL FAILIURE HAPPEN?

PLEASE HELP ME OUT
I START TO SEARCH THE FORUM ALSO,BUT IF YOU GUYS MIGHT HELP ME MAYBE I CAN HAVE AN ANSWER FASTER

MANY MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE
GEORGE

The worst thing that is going to happen, is at some point your not going to be able to get it in, or out of gear, leaving the car useless. So if your prepared to be stranded somewhere, drive on.

The clutch system is pretty simple and only a few things can cause this problem, one being the clutch masters you are getting are bad (very likely) or you have a leak somewhere. When you push in the clutch you push a rod that pushes in on the piston in the clutch master, the master piston pushes fluid into the slave which pushes the release fork. The pressure from the pressure plate pushing on the clutch slave when you release the pedal will push the piston in the clutch master back pushing the clutch pedal back up any leak will reduce the pressure that pushes back on clutch pedal. If you have an internal leak in your clutch master or an external leak on either the lines or the slave or the slave bleeder you will loose pressure and your pedal will stay down. Check for wetness down all the lines and the slave to see if there is any leaking, if there is not then I would suspect its just crappy manufacturing of the clutch master and its leaking internally.
Sorry if you already knew all of this just going with the basics. But my luck with masters either brake or clutch it is not good. I went through 5 masters on my 89 before I got one that even worked, they would not even bleed because the internal valving was built wrong. So I ended up getting a rebuild kit and a hone and just rebuilt the one I got from the junk yard and I have the new working one sitting in the box still, it does actually work but I got it after I rebuilt the old one (they had my core and I already paid for it, plus they gave it to me for cost so I figured I would hold onto it for a spare.

Thanks for sharing your experience
I will also keep a spare one on my shelf from now on...
One more thing
do I know it right that if I change the master I have to change the slave also?

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
If it's old you should. Change both, flush the line, fill with new fluid and bleed the system. For longevity clean the top of the reservoir well each time before opening it, occasionally change the reservoir fluid (use something like a turkey baster or gravity drain the system until nearly empty), and make sure the little plastic float is there. If you don't have one, buy one. It's there for a reason.

I always wondered what thats for.
Is it so the brake fluid wont splash onto the vent?
