So a couple of weeks ago my grandmother died, and she left her dodge durango to me. It was a pleasant surprise, but it hadn't been driven in about 2 years.
So my plan was to change all the fluids and whatnot and get it running and do a once over on its condition. But today i was at my grandfather's house taking a nap, and I'm awoken by sounds of someone revving the piss out of that durango, so I jump up and look out the window and my grandfather's friend is out there revving it up till smoke comes out the engine bay. So I ran into my grandfather's room and asked him what the hell was going on. He said "Oh he said he was just going to look at it so I gave him the keys".
So then the guy comes in the house yelling about how there is no oil in the truck, which I knew because my grandfather told me he had drained all the oil out for some reason or another. I guess my grandfather didn't know this guy was going to start up a car without checking the fluids at all first and rev it up all the way.
And then he says later that he checked the alternator by removing the + cable off the battery while it was running a few times. I'm pretty sure I remember that being an example of how not to check an alternator when I was in school.
Anyway, I just hope that this obvious pro mechanic didn't just change a pleasant surprise into a pile of trouble...
