so my ct26 is burning coolant and oil.
i'm going to get it rebuilt by blaastperformance.
i decided i wouldn't upgrade, just rebuild because the cost really seems to go up with an upgrade. i plan to set it right at 13-14psi once it's rebuilt.

are there any other turbos that would work with the stock manifold and the bic ddp?
any suggestions, recommendations, comments, please do speak.

Yes there are direct bolt ons, No i don't remember what they're called. I suggest just upgrading the CT especially if youre going to run 13-14PSI. stock CT isn't very effecient above 14PSI even 13 to some degree simply because it heats up a lot. Also, the lifespan will be shortened much more at those levels. Upgrading will allow you to run those levels all day long and still have bolt on ease.

shouldn't be buring coolant, it's nearly impossible for the turbo to burn coolant as it would have to have a cracked center section.

if it is cracked, it's not rebuildable. sounds more like...BHG

Ding ding ding!

Only way a turbo will burn coolant is a cracked cartridge.

How much are they charging you for a rebuild?
from what i read on the site, like 230 bucks. i still have to contact them to confirm it. i was also considering majestic which is like 250.

so are you saying that running 13psi would be too much for the rebuilt turbo and dramatically decrease it's life span?

Not really seeing where it gets expensive?
mdc's parts list confuses me, i wouldn't know i have to replace, theres so many parts. i was basing it off from what i saw on the blaastperformance site.

yeah im probably wrong about the coolant, i assumed it a while ago and stuck with it, i might not even be losing it anymore, so disregard what i said. i'm getting another ct26 rebuilt anyway, just for keeping the car on the road purposes.

No it wouldn't be too much. Yes it will decrease its life span...how much? i don't know, but running at 13 PSI doesn't mean it will run at 13PSI, could go 1-1.5PSI over or worse if you have any spike occuring. It will stilll last awhile but i still would recomend upgrade the compressor and it will help alot, not to mention you can make some big numbers (at least for its size) on a std .57 trim if you wanted to

boy, 10 years ago, i blew my turbo out in my 89. Well, being the poor bastard that i was at the time, I couldn't afford a new turbo, so I rigged it.

the shaft was torn in half. I took the turbo apart, took out the wheels and shaft, and hammered a freeze plug into each end, went and got the GE oil block off plate, put it on, and put a standard bolt (w/ teflon tape) into the other oil outlet on the block. I slapped my now gutless turbo back on, and to my surprise the car ran great!

I didn't expect it to work, but it did, I was just missing alot of power, but beggars cant be choosers right?

Anyway, this had nothing to do with this topic, but by the subject line, it kind of fit right in. CT-26's are so cheap these days....

Go the driftmotions section in the forum and check out the thread about ct26 rebuilds and upgrades. Im waiting on my 57 trim to come back right now....Aaron is a very helpful guy to work with, give him a call and see what he can do. I know that the price for his standard 57 trim upgrade was like 510 including return shipping, I cant remember as I ordered a few other things at the time.

my ct26 was used when i bought it for 100 bucks ..... The milage is unknown but i know I have personally put 20,000+ miles on at 14psi. I only adjust the boost when the weather changes from summer to winter. At night sometimes I have to lower the boost b.c she spikes a little and during the day when its like 90 degrees i have to raise her a tad. But she does burn a little oil, but these are pretty good stock turbos that can take the abuse when there is a good BOV.

I've put about 20,000 miles on my stock CT. Dunno the miles prior to this, as I bought the whole motor used. No oil, no shaft play. On 12psi, but I only hit that about once every two days(I'm a pussy).

14psi 20000miles+unknown is quite surprising

LOL ur funny many of these stock turbos last well into 150,000+. I have seen a few turbos go from one motor, to another, then to a shelf, and sold to a person for $100. It happened to me just like that. The turbo i have has been with 3 owners the 3rd being me. I am sure some of the stock turbos being sold have been down the same path. The last year of production for the MKIII in the states was 92 and i think 93 in japan. Its now 2007 going on 2008. It makes sense to me......... You do the math.
