i am ordering an ACT clutch kit. but im not sure which one i should get i know i want the pressure plate in this kit TS2-XTR4 http://www.jdmhub.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=2_670_694_695_1432&product_id=3685
but im haven't made up my mind on what disk to go with. its gonna be one out of these three, 4 puck solid, 4 puck sprung, or 6 puck sprung.
so i guess my main questions are 4 puck holds more power than 6 puck right? is the shift time improvement really noticeable between sprung and solid hub? is solid hub gonna be dramatically harder on my transmission and not even worth the improved shifting?
i am going to make about 450whp soon. and plan on doing 700whp in the future. and i do not care about "drivability"

Get a sprung clutch kit. Unsprung disks are going to be very harsh. If you will use your car on the street, get a sprung disk, drag only, an unsprung disk would be good.

ive ran a unsprung disc before, the clutch was either engauged, or disengauged, and i only drove on it for about a week and had enough of it trying to drive back and forth to work.

Get a sprung disc, its much more worth it in the long run of having to pull everything apart a second time to get it out.

sooo any gain from quicker shifting is nothing compared to the horrible drivability and extra shock load? thats kinda what i was thinking...

so if its between the sprung 4 puck or sprung 6 puck whats the pros and cons for the two?
does a 4 puck hold more power than a 6? will the 4 puck shift noticeably faster than the 6?

thanks for the input guys

The Synchro's in the Trans are the limiting factor for shift speed.

The More Pucks the "gentler" the initial engagement/bit will be but a Puck clutch is never going to be "smooth" like a full face disc with Marcel springs no matter what Hub it uses.

If synchro rings are worn, they can't slow the shaft down very fast, which translates to a slower shift.

Conversely, new synchros have great traction and can slow the shaft in less time, meaning a quicker shift.

There's a Ford "additive" to make the Oil less slippery... ;)

un sprung will kill your trannie

I remember way back when 2000 to 2003 there were next to no high torq clutch's out for the mk3 that were affordable when past the 500 mark

but back then some people started to try out the none sprung act 6 puck and 4 puck because it was the cheapest you could get with out dropping 1500 to 2000 for hks unit or os unit

so in the end lots of poeple started busting there trannies because he r154 just does not like shock, mix that with 200,000 mile of ware they tend to end rather fast.

I have a sprung 6 puck and love it.The 4 puck unsprung will destroy the trans and bust flywheel bolts, its only practical use is for drag racing.

fly wheel bolts ?

I don't think it will bust the bolts it mostly the shock loading of the trans

well lets use your it's power fullmind, 4 is less then 6 sooooo, humm so that will be 2 less pucks.....

think so more....... hummm

less pads mean's might not last as long hummm but 4 could hold more power hummmm?

so is 6 better then 4 ?

oh the humanity of these mind boggling qestions:runaway:

all leav the rest up to you:stickpoke
