Hey guys!

So after getting my Supra for $1,700 a while back, the head gasket finally blew. Originally, I was going to strip the thing apart and build it back up again from the ground up, but a few financial issues came up, and I've been too distracted to put together a parts list, and too strapped for cash to pick up said parts.

A mechanic friend of mine dropped by and said, "You're going about this entirely the wrong way. Fix the car, and drive it while you get the parts together for a rebuild." That made way too much sense- I've missed my Supra way too much. ...so, I've put the parts together, and I'm gonna do a head gasket swap, and take my time with it. :)

This is my first time doing any kind of mechanical work this intense. I've done little things- changing alternators, radiators, and spark plugs, but nothing this big before. I'm no stranger to the mystical workings of the TSRM, however, and with said magical book in hand, I should be able to do this no problem. :icon_bigg

I've gotten a stock Head Gasket for this quick repair job, and by recommendation of a friend, picked up a cheap head gasket set from eBay to get the rest of the gaskets needed for the job. I've also ordered a 1987 Supra TSRM (newer print? It's got the new logo on it, and is 1,144 pages! :aigo:) which should be arriving this week.

Here's what I did today, while I wait for parts and TSRM to arrive:
  1. Cleaned and organized the work area*
  2. Disconnected the Battery
  3. Drained the coolant
  4. Removed the intake and Inter Cooler pipes
  5. Removed the relevant vacuum lines
  6. Removed the 3000 pipes, and other pipes covering the engine
  7. Removed the Alternator
  8. Removed the Power Steering reservoir bracket
  9. Removed the Coil-packs and wires
  10. Removed the Valve Covers

*The biggest bitch of this- one of my roomies had his car up on jack stands, trying to replace his clutch for 4 some odd months, and had managed to make quite a mess of the car port- bits and sockets everywhere, leaves and all sorts of crap all over the floor, etc. I had to clean and organize before I could even start, less I go crazy! :runaway:

Every part I pulled off I've cleaned the hell out of using brake cleaner, a brush set, and shop towels. It's looking more and more sparkly as I go along! :icon_bigg
