Hey guys!
So after getting my Supra for $1,700 a while back, the head gasket finally blew. Originally, I was going to strip the thing apart and build it back up again from the ground up, but a few financial issues came up, and I've been too distracted to put together a parts list, and too strapped for cash to pick up said parts.
A mechanic friend of mine dropped by and said, "You're going about this entirely the wrong way. Fix the car, and drive it while you get the parts together for a rebuild." That made way too much sense- I've missed my Supra way too much. ...so, I've put the parts together, and I'm gonna do a head gasket swap, and take my time with it.
This is my first time doing any kind of mechanical work this intense. I've done little things- changing alternators, radiators, and spark plugs, but nothing this big before. I'm no stranger to the mystical workings of the TSRM, however, and with said magical book in hand, I should be able to do this no problem. :icon_bigg
I've gotten a stock Head Gasket for this quick repair job, and by recommendation of a friend, picked up a cheap head gasket set from eBay to get the rest of the gaskets needed for the job. I've also ordered a 1987 Supra TSRM (newer print? It's got the new logo on it, and is 1,144 pages! :aigo which should be arriving this week.
Here's what I did today, while I wait for parts and TSRM to arrive:
*The biggest bitch of this- one of my roomies had his car up on jack stands, trying to replace his clutch for 4 some odd months, and had managed to make quite a mess of the car port- bits and sockets everywhere, leaves and all sorts of crap all over the floor, etc. I had to clean and organize before I could even start, less I go crazy! :runaway:
Every part I pulled off I've cleaned the hell out of using brake cleaner, a brush set, and shop towels. It's looking more and more sparkly as I go along! :icon_bigg
