I am looking to install a Soarer 1JZ-GTE into a 91 Mark III Supra. The old NA engine is out and we should have the new one in this week. Wiring looks to be a challenge, to say the least. Anyone know what's involved here?

I just finished up my 1JZGTE swap into my 90. It went pretty good, there is a lot of info out there. The wiring was not too bad, it just took a LONG time to lengthen all the wires. Do them one at a time, and you should have no problem. There are several shielded wires, you can lengthen them at the ECU end, or use a shielded wire to do it right. If you are good at soldering, it won't be bad. If you aren't, practice.

Hi Gn_convert,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. This should be the information I need. The motor is in, and now the "fun" work begins. This engine has a lot more electronics than the old NA engine had. Thanks for the Tach info also. It all helps.

No problem. Really, the electrical is not all that difficult, just very time consuming. If you have the plugs from the 7M that came out, you can use them and leave the body connectors alone. I found it easier that way. You might want to change out the capacitors in the ECU before you get in installed, they are only a few bucks from mouser. If you want, I can give you the part numbers. Also, if you are not very good at soldering, you may want to just send it off to Driftmotion and have them do it.
One more thing, unless you swap out the transmission speed sensor, your ABS won't work, the light will stay on as you drive. The brakes work fine, just no ABS.

sine the ECU is 15 years old or so, the electrolyte can leak out. It can damage the PC board, and will also change the capacitance of the capacitor as well, so it won't run quite right. If you do a google search of 1JZ ECU capacitors, you will find a lot of people complaining about it. It seems that Toyota got the caps from some vendor that did not use the right electrolyte, and it degrades over time. All capacitors will leak eventually, just with the age, and the less than ideal quality, these likely will need replaced.
here are the part numbers from Mouser.com
647-USV1A101MFD
667-ECE-A1VKG330
667-ECE-A1VKG150
647-UKL1J470KPD

When you open up the ECU, you will find the 4 capacitors on the two boards. You can look closely underneath them, you will probably see some brown goo, that is the electrolyte that leaked out. here are some pictures http://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...ce/545769-1jz-running-issues-please-help.html

I was able to scavenge all the extra wire I needed for my harness out of a 94 honda accord harness from the junkyard. The old 7M harness didn't have enough pieces of shielded wire IIRC. Accord harnesses are a dime a dozen most places.

or you can go to a local radio shack, another local electronics store, or online and order some shielded wire. Whatever is easiest
