So what would cause a supra to stall?

Im a bit stuck with my 88 turbo, ive just got it back together after a BHG and having to swap the auto tranny, and now the car cranks fires and if you hold ur foot on the gas or pump the pedal its fine but the car wont idle on it own

i had a code 52 and ive fixed that, but now theres no codes and it just wont idle, engine jumps and coughs at low rpm then stalls

Ive stripped and cleaned the ISC and checked the solenoid is working (it is). all hoses are tight and no apparent vac leaks

Im wondering of maybe the spark plugs are bad? it does seem like its missing before it stalls but of you hold it up in the revs it runs fine on all cylinders

Thanks for the advice
Nick

sounds like a vac leak, does it start right away? check your timing. did you remove your tps? if you did check that. check all your nut and bolts on your intake manifold

yup it does start straight away...the timing belt is all TDC checked that to make sure i hadnt missed a tooth but i havent put a timing light on it.

I didnt touch the TPS i just removed the complete throttle body, tho i have a spare throttle body and tps that could be on the cards for swappage
Intake manifold is tight

Thanks

Around
1) check your diagnostic trouble codes
no codes?
2) check to make sure every vacuum line is connected properly. yes?
3) check every electrical connection

Had a bit of a update :icon_bigg, i finally got a code! a 51 yay faulty tps wiring, so i replaced the complete throttle body from my other supra, and it started up and ran but had a real miss to it was running like a old lumpy V8, so on the agenda for this evening is to replace the coil packs and spark plug leads (ive put new plugs in it) hopefully that will fix this problem

I think i may have a Vac leak around the intake manifold i can hear it sucking when the car runs

Thanks heaps for the advice guys!

51 isn't a faulty TPS or wiring. Sorry you wasted money like that with the idle contacts out of adjustment. You notice the screws holding them in place right?

i didnt waste any money i mearly swapped the throttle body from my other supra, so if i loosen those two tps screws i can adjust the idle speed set point?

Good to hear you didn't spend the money then.

Yes, there are contacts inside that tell the ECU your foot is not on the accelerator pedal, and it needs to be at idle speed. Toyota gives an ohm reading to make in the repair manual.

I don't think it is the best way, voltage would be, but that is how Toyota does it.
