Snow Tires Or Not?

I think I need new tires but don't know if I need snows.
I drive 70 mi one way from Grand Junction, CO to Rifle, CO to work.
It could be raining in GJ but will be snowing in Rifle so I will have to drive in a mix of both.
I have a Land Cruiser for when I know its going to snow. This is why I don't think I need a snow tire BUT I never drove the Supra in the snow. All my life I drove a 4WD truck/Land Cruiser so a rear wheel drive car will be new for me:cry:

Do I just get a set of snows and not worry about getting stuck driving in snow or just get a good set of all season tires like BFG Traction T/A.The wifes Camry goes good in the snow with them but its a front wheel drive.

Never drove a mkiii in the snow, but had a mkii in N.J. that did pretty good with all weather tires.

Get the snow tires. They work awesome - I use Michelin mud & snows. When you end up on questionable traction, take it easy and you'll be fine. The Supra with snow tires on it will track better than a 4wd with all seasons.

If need be just for the rear, as the front has allot of weight to push the tires to the floor. I never had trouble braking with my dunlop sp5000 that had a 10 inch wide footprint. (on sawblades)

i drove the last 2 years on my falkens and yeah they arent too good in the snow. if you take it easy its not bad. my rps 3200 last year was more of a problem than my tires were. :3d_frown: for the price it would be worth it to get a set to run in the winter.

Snow tires make the car very secure in bad conditions. I would recommend them.

I just got snows to be on the safe side. I'd much, much rather spend an extra couple hundred on extra tires than a grand to fix any body damage from any bad weather driving.

Sorry, no. You want the narrowest rims/tires you can find on all four corners. You do way too much braking up front to be relying on performance all season or summer tires.

Always plan for the worst case scenario. What someone does happen to pull out in front of you? Or someone stops short because they did spend the money on snows? Snow tires aren't that expensive and sawblades aren't much good for anything else. lol

He's also right about the width, that can make a huge difference. My snows are the alternative skinny size for us, 205/55/16. The still look mostly normal and I bet they'll grip like crazy in the snow.

I run some 205s on mine in the winter too, never had a problem.

The supra has a few things going for it in the winter. First, it has an LSD, so you'll never have one wheel spinning. Second, it's FUCKING HEAVY.

I drove in snow so deep my bumper was actually scooping it up. Never had a problem.

Sawblades with snow tires is very good idea. It rarely snows down here but when it does only 1 in 10 people know how to drive in it. When that happens my supra stays in the driveway away from the idiots.:naughty:
