Ok guys, I have a 1987 W58 non-turbo.

First problem being that sometime when i go to put it into reverse it simply with NOT go. Now matter how hard i push. So i put it in nuetral, let the clutch out and try it again and it make a REALLY loud grinding noise.

:1zhelp:

Second problem is

If i am backing out of my driveway, and i turn the wheel all the way to the RIGHT and back out, it make a REALLY loud pinging noise like something snapped. I have 17 inch wheels. And a HKS TEMS controller.

:1zhelp:

Also, my passenger seats on fire. Smokes commign from under it:)biglaugh: )

But please guys, HELP

When you shift into reverse shift into first, then go reverse. Something about the syncros keeps it from grinding this way.
You check your ball joints suspension/wheel torque etc?
That burning sensation may be the clap.

Kidding about the seat thing. Refer to the closed thread about someone seat on fire.

But i havn't had a chance to look, im gonna take the wheel and crap off tommarow. Just checking if this is a common problem.

Thanks for the tranny thing. Its really embarrassing when im at an event and i shift into reverse and everyones like "damn......"

Thanks JAV!!!

You can just tell then your tranny makes noise because it's so built.

For the record Girl B probably gave you the herpes.

Lol i couldn't make up my mind for a while. But in the thread i said i was taking a long term shot with girl A.

Im sticking with that. I already told girl B to get lost.

Girl A = ftw.

Girl B = FtL (x2)

ive got the same sensation...er...noise in my wheel at hard rights. like a big snapping/clicking sound of metal on metal. had the car looked over, had a new ps rack put in (due to a leak, not the noise) and that seemed to help it some. i've got no clue what it could be, but it quieted down a lot after the new rack was put in.

as for your shifter, see if you can take it out and look at the shift forks or whatever the hell theyre called.

problem #1: that's not really a problem, most supras do it. mine does. i just keep the clutch in, and run it from first - third gears, and it'll pop right in.

if i remember right, (don't quote me on this) reverse in our tranny's is a straight cut gear, so it has to be perfect to go in.

problem #2: it sounds to me like one of the plastic caps has worn through/ fallen off of your bump stops. that sound you hear is most likely the metal bump stop adjustment grinding against the other side (would only happen at full lock). you can buy the little caps for them at the dealership, but for a quick fix until then, put a little dalop of grease on there, and it'll keep it quiet.

if it won't go in reverse just move the car a tiny bit. if on a hill just lift off the brake, or throw it in first and lift the clutch just a bit. I have to do that all the time.

I've got this problem also, well not really a problem cause I dont turn my car wheel real sharp nemore.
I do remember the cap thing tho, lots of peoples caps on their supras are worn out.
I'ma try the grease thing tho.
