Hi Everyone:
Going on 5 years for our restoration and yes it is slow.
Our objective is to fully restore every part of the car and
make it into a nice May to September driver.
The focus was to first concentrate on chasing / cutting out - welding
in new metal - repairing any and all rust areas correctly and not just
cover the rust up with bondo or undercoating.
As for HP, not interested in building or chasing more and more HP
or making a race car. Yes we stayed witth the twin turbos for now.
Maybe down the road with go single - not sure.
Just wanted a clean - close to original classic.
The 1JZ is pretty much stock with exception of larger injectors, improved
exhaust system and fuel pump - fuel management system. The 1JZ was from a
1/2 cut we purchased from a Toronto importer with approximately
71000 km / 48000 miles.
All gaskets / seals were replaced with new OEM parts. We did install
a new clutch / seals / bearings etc. Old clutch appeared ok but with the
engine out, made sense to clean - refresh ..
As for wiring, re routed a lot and hid under the dash. Wanted to hide
whatever wiring possible that was in the engine bay.
Did not like the look of the aluminum sand casted engine parts so
they were removed / sanded with 180 - finish with 600 - then buffed
with black + green + blue polishing compound.
Replaced the coil cover with a laser cut polished stainless steel replacement.
Lots of fun ( not ) sanding and polishing stainless .
Engine bay in our 87 was cleaned / sanded / wet sanded / primed / sanded /
sprayed with a purest white we could find, ( color from a Lexus F series ) and clear coated.
Same color will be used to paint the car.
There is still a lot of work to be done & will post more as we progress.
