Hey all i got a problem, i bought a 91 turbo targa that was sitting around for like 6 months. When i got it, the car was slow as all hell. So i did a full tune up, i saw a difference, then drove it around 2000 miles and saw another perfomance difference. So i raced a 96 oldsmobile 3.1 v6 auto. I went head to head. That car had an intake and exhaust done to it and its 190 stock. i got cat back hks, blow off valve, lowered suspension. Why is my car still so slow. i would have figured it would really show off some power but its still wicked slow. Any suggestions? what should i do becuase its embarrasing

you just bought this car? have you crawled all over it yet and inspected every inch of it?

was that a "no" i heard?

compression test, check codes, turbo shaft play, boost leaks, timing(though i think you full tune up would cover timing), resistance of spark plug wires

and once all that is done and its not fast enough for you start modding it.

A 3.1 V6 old with 190 hp..... WTF?!?!? my 3.1 olds had 130... don't matter a supra should beat an olds 3.1 anything 'less it's BUILT

I think that 3.1 V6 got 160hp and even if it's lighter than the supra a good engine on an N\A supra should beat that car

96 3100 will have the roller fulcrum points, and yeah, I believe it was 175-180hp. Not a bad little motor, really... But a good running stock turbo Supra should be in the low 15s, and a good running '96 Olds should be in the upper 15s.

Therefore, either:

a) You ain't running so hot man... previously stated, you need to go through every inch of the car, and really take care of it. You may have a boost leak.

b) He's running pretty damned good, and can honestly take down a basically stock turbo Supra.

First do what everyone else is telling you to do, as in actually go over the car with a fine tooth comb and fix any boost leaks, timing issues and what not. Second as already stated the car is a tank, it is not terribly fast as a stock car. You only have a cat-back from what you said, and a blow off valve will not make you any faster because you are in stock set up. The most power gains are form the downpipe. Go with a BIC DDP and you will be laughing. Once you let that turbo breathe, then it starts to get faster.

hey can you tell me how to do a boost leak test, i think there may be a problem with that becuase the gauge goes up to like 6 pounds but the car isnt really boosting, its moving faster but i would have expected alitte more. or maybe im just to greedy..

your running stock boost which is about 6psi, you are to greedy, these cars weigh 3600LBS! open up your exhaust, your catback is doing you absolutely no good with a stock cat and downpipe...
