Yes im in the right section as well :icon_razz
well it is not related to bottom end, and the sound doesn't increase with RPMS, it is just there at idle. Perhaps an exhaust leak? or what else could be the problem? It sounds like it is coming from around the top end areaa, vbut it is not valve ticking... Any ideas guys?
thanks in advance,
-Thomas

no, now that i went out again cause he called me and explained, it sounds like it just needs a slight valve adjustment. I did the old screwdriver trick and its coming from a rear valve but very hard to notice. i was actually confused cause i couldn't hear it at 1st b/c the car warmed up. seriously if it's not noticeable when warm does it sound like a big deal? its been -30 here lately and he is running full synthetic 5w30, so it might be the problem.

MY 1JZ ticks when cold too. I run 5w-30, but it does it even with 15w-50. Mine I believe is just a worn out oil pump. It does it in -30c, or +30c

Still runs like a champ though.
