Well I'll be in school starting January ( Just filling out my loan papers ), but I haven't even the slightest clue what to sign up for....

I'm looking for a very specific skilled trade, not something that I need to learn 800 different things. For example, a boiler mechanic ect.

Anyone out here a skilled trade worker? I'm looking for something I can make around 30/hr after schooling, or something that has apprenticeships.

Thanks!

Get into your local Pipe fitters union if you want to work on boilers.

Get into your local Electricians union if you want to work with wires.

Get into your local steel workers union if you want to scale buildings and weld all day.

Get into your local masons union if you want to play in the mud.

All of these unions typically have some sort of apprentice (sp?) system and most of the time, once you complete school you're making around 30/hr.

Welders make damn good money. I took it in High School for 2 years and it was decent but not the line of work I want. If you choose welding you should look into underwater welding. It's very dangerous since you work underwater with electricity but I heard you only work 6 months out of the year and you make insane money.

I was going to do automotive and went to school for it for about a year but I decided I might not want to do it as a career since it would get old after a while and take the fun out of things.

yeah, welders/fitters at a joist factory here make $25 starting out.

welding underwater isnt actually that dangerous since you're working with DC instead of AC, you just have to be prepared to spend a shitload of time working in a small box on the bottom of the ocean repairing lines.

i got into working at a print shop (not copy shop like kinkos, but an actual printer). they make pretty good money and i'm happy with the job. i have to maintain the presses, which is one of the fun parts.

i took 3 years in high school and a year of tech college. under watter welders don't make as much as people think. if you really want to make money welding, get into the aerospace industry. also, at the puget sound naval shipyard, there is a 5 year school (they pay you to be in school) that will teach you how to decommission and repair nuclear subs and ships.

i worked for nasco ship builders and made 15 and hour in apprenticeship for pipe fitting. if i stayed i would have been making 45/hour on a 12 hour shift.
also a fork lift operator at a warehouse or something of that sort. they make about 30/hour depending on the type of fork lift your using. GL

doesn't matter, unions can still cripple a company

when everyone goes on strike, the company can fire them all, but then they lose all the skilled workers that are already trained for the job...
