1. Does an average engine come with the ECU or am I going to have to spend more money on that.

2. Are the wiring harness the same?

3. Motor mounts?

Simple questions for simple answers :)

And kinda curious what you can do with the gte for a decent boost of affordable horsepower :p... Besdies exhaust components/air intake please?

1. an average engine will not come with an ECU, and many other components you will need (ie. intercooler, piping, etc)
2.no
3.mounts will be the same

with the 7mgte the skys the limit on horsepower. as long as your engine is reliable you can make it very fast very quick. Upping the boost is the easiest way to make power as long as you have enough fuel and a strong engine.

^ Agree with everything he said exept for the mounts... They MAY be the same, depending on what year both engines are from. Basically, use some common sense and don't toss anything until the swap is completed...

Has anyone made a good "how-to" on going from 7mge to 7mgte? I'm getting ready to do it again and wouldn't mind doing a write up if it hasn't been done.

My last swap was SIMPLE with all the right parts, it was basically just the same as dropping in the NA motor. Everything just had to be plugged into the right connections *which reminds me to try to get a harness from the correct year, or you wont be able to plug the harness into the "body"* The hardest part for me: Putting the damn intercooler piping in, when I didn't have all the right hoses. :icon_bigg

The best thing about the swap is, if you don't have something you need... someone on the forum has one that they are needing/wanting to get rid of.

Motor mounts might be different depending on the year of the motor and the year of the chassis.

86.5-88 used square mounts.
89-92 used round mounts.

They may or may not line up right.

^ If you fabricate some longer studs onto the squares and use the mount on the engine made for the round ones, it'll give you enough room in the back to get to just about anything you would ever need to change (those little hoses in the back, starter bolts, trans bolts, and what not) and will also raise the motor up to the point where it looks like the hood wont close.

Yeah, i threw out all my mounts and stuff before I realized they wouldn't work. So I went that route because it was cheaper than buying a set of the rounds. Also, I've seen 3 of the last 4 round mounts I've taken off simply fall on the floor when the engine was raised. I've never heard of (or looked into) the square ones doing that.
