I would first like to thank Jason S for stepping up to a thankless job of herding cats again this year. Jason will be our Drag Showdown coordinator again this year.

Before you read the classes and freak out I will offer this challenge again.

IF you can guarantee a full class of 8 Supras we will consider creating a class for anything you would like - so don't go freaking out if the posted classes "appear" to be MkIV centric.

Copied from what Jason posted elsewhere:
----------------------------------------------------------
Here are the class rules for vegas this year. Each car will register weight (Except brackets), and will be assigned a number and a Lane. There will also be a pre-registry for classes to save time at the track. The Pre-registry will be done by responding to this post with your name and intended class.

Class rules for Quick 8 Unlimited!
1. Live axle rearends (solid axles) must weigh 3400lbs!
2. All other mods are legal!
3. Independant rearend cars have no weight minimum.

Class rules for Quick 8 Turbo only!
1. 1 power adder (No Nitrous, Propain etc..)
2. Tire selection is open
3. Vehicle weight must exceed 3500lbs!
4. Non-ToyotaTransmissions add 200lb weight penalty (3700lbs total)
5. Must run of gasoline.

Class rules for Street 8!
1. Tires must be radial type tires, no E.T. streets or equivelant tires. Drag radials o.k.
2. Vehicle weight must exceed 3400lbs!
3. Non-Toyota Transmissions not allowed!
4. Must run on gasoline

BPU Class Rules – Allowed modifications are as follows
1. Exhaust system is completely open from the stock turbocharger discharge and back, however the exhaust must exit the rear of the vehicle, and have some form of muffling device
2. Stock turbochargers (unmodified: I.E. no porting or clipping wheels). From the head to the stock turbochargers is open.
3. Adjustable Cam gears allowed
4. Aftermarket cams allowed
5. Intake from the inlet of the stock turbochargers forward is open.
6. Any intercooler allowed
7. Any fuel management allowed
8. Race gas or pump gas only (no Alternative fuels staged or otherwise)
9. Water injection allowed
10. Any tire/wheel combination allowed
11. The factory long block must remain un-modified (no head porting, no aftermarket pistons or rods, no milling of the head)
12. Fuel system is completely open as long as it carries approved fuels
13. Rear end gear ratios must remain stock (LSD’s are allowed)
14. Ignition system is completely open
15. No additional power adders (I.E. Nitrous, Propain, etc…)
16. Underdrive pulley kits are allowed
17. Boost controller and boost pressures are open.
18. Factory Weight (no reduction whatsoever) Anything not listed in this section is considered illegal unless previously approved by the class coordinator prior to qualifying.

Bracket classes are by Dial in only. No time breaks. If you have a 12.0 dial in, a car with a 14.0 dial in gets 2.0 seconds head start! This is how bracket racing is done!
-----------------------------------------------------------

Jason is looking for volunteers to help coordinate this activity as well. If you are interested please let me know and I'll put you in touch with Jason.

Sounds like the MK4 guys are going to have fun.

Stock turbo's. (MK4 only.)

The class with solid axles? (I think there are a few MK2's with this mod, but I don't suppose they are coming to SILV.) I know of Zero MK3's with a solid rear axle.

Street 8 and Quick 8 might apply to a few MK3's, so I suppose there's room for the MK3's at this event.

Just one question, I see there will be bracket racing, but I'm guessing the '8' classes are fastest ET only.

What I'd most like to see is a grudge class. You can race anyone, anytime. Just line up and go. Winner is first across the line.

This might bring out the barely modded cars, and allow everyone to get a few passes down the track. Who cares if you run a 14.8 in your NA against your friend in his NA who goes 14.7? If you had fun, your going to come back next year.

Remember the statement from my original post: "IF you can guarantee a full class of 8 Supras we will consider creating a class for anything you would like - so don't go freaking out if the posted classes "appear" to be MkIV centric."

Several people are already contacting Jason (SILV05Drags@Supras.Org) to see about getting the Bracket class changed over to "Grudge" racing. I have no problem with that plan and it is even easier to coordinate from the coordinators position.

There is also a MkIII guy that is working on getting one or two MkIII classes. The requirements for these extra classes is that each additional class MUST be full (8 cars) and that there MUST be a coordinator responsible for each class. If we arrive in Vegas and any of these classes are not filled they will be dropped. If there is no coordinator to manage these classes they will be dropped. We feel that this is the best way to manage additional classes without putting an extra strain on our main Drag Showdown coordinator who already has his hands full with the main classes.

Well... let's be a "LITTLE" realistic here. I'd make a "Keith" class but then I'd be up against Keith Ta and he'd kick my @$$!

A other possible option is the "street racing" class.

It would need to be open to any Supra.
Any mods are fine.
It is heads up racing. Light goes green, and you go.
Whoever wins crosses the line first.
There are no eliminations.
You can run as much as you want.

Placing bets is fine, we are in Vegas after all. :)

This "class" would be fun for anyone who would like to race a fellow Supra owner, and your there for fun, not to win the race, or wait for hours to make 3 passes.

This type of class get's the most runs done, and everyone who pays the fees, goes through tech and lines up get's to run more than a few times. (Last time I was in an event like this, I had 9 passes down the track, and it was more fun than any "organized" race I've ever participated in.
I raced the same car 3 times, and others the rest, but the best part was just making the runs down the track and not watching out for the Police or idiot drivers on the road. (Street racing.)

I know a class like this is hated by the real race drivers. They say it oils down the track, takes up too much time etc.

I say we are at a car show, not a race. If they want to race, go to the races. :) If the track wants to close down the lanes, VHT the track, and let the guys who run 7 and 8 second passes for a living go at it, I'm all for it. Just limit the time to ONE HOUR of that crap, and let me back on the track with my street car to race my friends in their street cars. (Who know's, we may even get you Keith on the track this way? LOL)

Just a thought, but this type of racing is fun, and that's why I'm going to Vegas, for the fun of the Supra show.

Adjuster - there is talk of changing the "Bracket" class to just Grudge racing. You choose your opponent in the pits and come to the line together when the Supras are called. Heads up - no eliminations as you mentioned. Betting in the pits would be between the participants and would not be endorsed by the SILV management.

As you can see... everyone has their own idea of what the ideal Drag Showdown would be. The coordinator that we have currently has set up the rules the way he (and his friends) would like them. If you want to help out and get things running in a manner that would make you happier please step up and help out.

I have no problem with anything. As I've mentioned in the past. I am not a drag racer. The Drag Showdown is part of the SILV schedule simply because there are a lot of people that are into it and holding an event of this scale we want to draw in as many people as possible.

OK guys. The Bracket class is GONE! The GRUDGE class is ON! This makes it even easier on the coordination team as we don't have to do anything at all - except tell you guys to come to the lanes with the Supra Grudge Class is called over the PA.
